  2. 2. What is Citizenship? Citizenship refers to being a member of a community and in order to make it a better place , which is essentially a happy and harmonious community.

Democracies depend upon citizens who, among other things, are: <ul><li>aware of their rights and responsibilities as citizens </li></ul><ul><li>informed about the social and political world </li></ul><ul><li>concerned about the welfare of others </li></ul><ul><li>articulate in their opinions and arguments </li></ul><ul><li>capable of having an influence on the world </li></ul><ul><li>active in their communities </li></ul><ul><li>responsible in how they act as citizens </li></ul>

Participating in Community Action <ul><li>The assignment for this PLP unit on responsible citizenship requires students to: </li></ul><ul><li>Identify service opportunities in your either the school, local or global community. </li></ul><ul><li>Undertake a service activity (minimum 10 hours). </li></ul><ul><li>Fill out planning and completion forms for that activity. </li></ul><ul><li>Write a reflection of your experience of your chosen activity. </li></ul>

What Qualifies as a Service Activity? <ul><li>It must involve you giving up your time, outside of the school day. </li></ul><ul><li>It is involvement in something that is of service to others and leads to making the community a better place. </li></ul><ul><li>It is preferably something that you are interested in and passionate about. </li></ul><ul><li>Further questions are answered in the assignment sheet that your Pastoral Care Teacher’s will give you. </li></ul>
