INTRODUCTION
The Government of Karnataka established the University of Horticultural Sciences
(UHS) at Bagalkot during the year 2008 to serve the farming community. This is the third
Horticultural University in the country and having eight constituent colleges situated in
different parts of Karnataka. The university has tri-fold functions of Teaching, Research and
Extension in the field of Horticulture and Allied Sciences.
Horticulture has been recognized as triple security source viz., food, health, income,
and employment all over the world. Incorporation of fruits and vegetables in daily diet has
been recognized as the only answer to address the issues of under nutrition and mal-nutrition
especially among the children and women all over the world. Apart from this, horticulture is
playing a major role in improving the income of the farmer and to ensure higher employment
days for the family members of farming community.
POST GRADUATE DEGREE PROGRAMMES – 2014-15
I. DOCTORAL DEGREE PROGRAMME
The University offers Doctoral Degree programme at three campuses viz. Bagalkot, Arabhavi
and Bengaluru.
Eligibility Criteria for Admission
The candidates should possess a Master Degree in M.Sc. (Hort.) / M.Sc.(Agri.) in
Horticulture or its equivalent qualification from a recognized Horticulture
/Agriculture University/ Institutions recognized by ICAR with a minimum OGPA of
not less than 2.75/4.00 or 7.00/10.00 & for SC/ST/Cat-I 2.25/4.00 or 6.50/10.00 or
its equivalent in the above mentioned Degree Programme..

II.MASTER’S DEGREE PROGRAMMES
The University offers Master’s degree programme in the following subjects at three

The candidate should possess a Degree in B.Sc. (Horticulture) / B.Sc. (Agriculture) or
its equivalent qualification from a recognized Horticulture / Agriculture University /

Entrance Test
The Candidates seeking admission for Ph.D. degree programmes shall appear for a
Entrance Test of 180 marks.
The Candidates seeking admission to Master’s degree programmes should appear for
entrance Test of 225 marks.
The candidate seeking admission for Masters degree shall apply for one or two
subject groups of his/her choice and appear for entrance test in each group covering
all the subjects included under each group. The detail of grouping is as below.

In addition to the above prescribed qualifications, candidate for Master’s degree
should be a citizen of India and must have studied in any educational institution in Karnataka
state for a minimum period of seven academic years at any time up to Bachelor’s degree as
on 1st
July 2014. (Domicile requirement is not applicable for Ph.D. Degree programme).
Exceptions for domicile requirement
The provision prescribed above shall not apply in case of candidates who fulfill any
one of the following conditions, provided appropriate certificates of proof are furnished in
support of their claim. In that ‘children’ means only ‘own’ children and not ‘adopted’
children.
i. Children of Defence personnel, Central Government employees and employees of
statutory Corporation set up, owned or controlled by the Central Government or
Karnataka State Government serving in the state and during the period of at least 12
months, immediately before such date.
ii. Children of State Government employees including children of members of the All
India Services borne on the Karnataka State Cadre who:
a) are serving or have served outside the State of Karnataka on deputation during
the relevant period.
b) are in the service of the State of Karnataka on the date of making the application
or have retired from the service prior to the date of making the application.
iii. Children of working or retired employees of Central or State Government or joint-
sector undertaking where employees:
a) had declared any place in Karnataka state as the home town.
b) had either studied in any educational institution in the state of Karnataka, run or
recognized by the Government of Karnataka, for not less than seven years at any
time prior to the last date fixed for receipt of application or has passed
Bachelor’s degree in Karnataka.
iv. Children of defence personnel or Ex-Servicemen whose home address at the time of
joining the defence service was in Karnataka. Proof of such domicile should be
produced either by obtaining the extract from the Record Office of the Defence Units
or a Certificate from Rajya Zilla Sainik Board.
Note: Candidates claiming seat under exception clause as above should produce relevant
documents in support of their claim.
III. Duration of Degree Programmes and Medium of Instruction:
A minimum of two academic years (4 Semesters) shall ordinarily be required for the
completion of course work, research, thesis/ Project preparation and examinations leading to
the award of Master’s degree. A minimum period of three academic years (6 Semester) shall
be required for completion of the Ph.D. Degree programme. English will be the medium of
instruction for all the PG progammes.

IV. Mode of Admission:
The Candidates seeking admission from a recognized state/ central government and
autonomous institutions for Ph.D. degree programmes shall appear for an entrance test
conducted for Ph.D.
The Candidates seeking admission for Masters Degree programme in Horticulture
apply for one or two subject groups of his/her choice and appear for entrance test in each
group covering all the subjects included under each group.
Those candidates who do not score minimum qualifying marks are not considered for
preparation of merit list.
Admission for the seats shall be in accordance with merit as determined by the P.G.
Admission Committee, the relative merit being determined as follows:

Note:
1. A candidate should secure a minimum of 45% of marks from the above criteria to be eligible for
admission to the PG degree programme. In case of candidates belonging to Scheduled Caste/
Scheduled Tribe/ Category –I, a minimum of 40% of marks is required.
2. The sports & Games/cultural/ Fine Arts/ Literary events recognized by the Association of Indian
Universities (AIU) New Delhi shall only be considered.
3. The weightage shall be considered only for ‘representation’ during the qualifying degree
programme for admission.
4. Candidates, who have studied under Trimester system seeking Ph.D./Master’s degree admission/
re-admission, should compulsorily submit a copy of the certificate declaring equivalent
percentage of marks issued by the competent authority declaring equivalent percentage of marks.
5. All eligible candidates seeking admission, including candidates qualified for ICAR-
SRF/CSIR/UGC/DBT/DST with or without fellowship or any other fellowship and candidates on
deputation from State/Central Government and autonomous institution for Post-graduate degree
programme shall apply and (are required to) appear for entrance examination.
V. RESERVATION OF SEATS
a) Reservation of seats in favour of candidates belonging to Scheduled Castes, Scheduled
Tribes and Other Backward Classes will be in accordance with the reservation policy
stipulated by the Government of Karnataka from time to time. Candidates should
produce the valid caste Certificates
b) If seats belonging to any of the Categories referred to above are not filled due to non-
availability of eligible candidates, the reservation to that extent shall stand reduced and
shall be transferred to the General Merit category as per the G.O. No. ED/47/TEC/97
dated 3.5.97.
c) Three per cent of the seats are reserved for physically Challenged candidates at the
level of M.Sc. degree programme
d) One seat is reserved for Kashmiri migrants.
e) One seat will be reserved for Defence/Ex-Serviceman/Freedom Fighter on inter-se
merit candidates at the level of M.Sc. degree programme
f) The reservation is provided to students from Hyderabad-Karnataka Region on
production of valid certificate from the competent authority as prescribed by the Govt.
of Karnataka. Other reservation of seats is made as per the State Govt. order in force
from time to time.

g) In-Service candidates will be required to send their applications through proper
channel.
VI. COUNSELING AND MODE OF ALLOCATION OF SEATS
A merit list will be prepared for both groups opted by the candidate and the
admission committee will allot the seats subject-wise/Campus wise on the date
of counseling-cum-admission on specified dates, based on the merit,
reservation & the preference given by the candidate in order of merit by considering
the result of two groups.
There is only one Common Entrance test for Ph.D. degree Programme
admission
In case of candidates seeking re-admission to Master’s degree Programme have to
appear for Entrance Test in their concerned Group only.
Candidates have to produce all the original testimonials at the time of counseling.
Further , the unfilled seats if any will be filled through casual round counseling-cum
admission on specified dates
VII. APPLICATION FORM AND PROSPECTUS
Application form, Notification and Prospectus can be downloaded from the University Website
www.uhsbagalkot.edu.in
1. The candidates should send the filled-in application alongwith all the relevant copies of
testimonials (SSLC,PUC, UG, PG marks cards, Publications, Caste & Income Certificate etc.)
2. The applicants should also have to obtain Bank Challan through The University website.
Application fees along with processing fees should be paid through Bank challan only (DD/IPO
/ Cheque are not accepted) at any branches of STATE BANK OF INDIA. The applicants have
to enclose University Copy of the challan along with the applications form .
3. No certificate sent after the last date for receipt of the application will be accepted except the
OGPA card / PDC of qualifying examination for which the last date of submission will be a day
earlier to the date of Entrance Test (i.e., on or before summarily 16.07.2014).
4. Applications without processing fees will be rejected. Processing fees will not be returned in
any case.
Filled-in application should be submitted to the Registrar, Academic Section, University
of Horticultural Sciences, Udyangiri, Seemikeri cross, Bagalkot-587103 on or before 01.07.2014
(5.00 pm). The late submitted and incomplete applications are liable to be rejected. The University
will not be held responsible for any postal delay.
REGISTRATION
The candidates admitted to the PG programme, shall report to the concerned College
Dean and complete all the prescribed formalities of Registration on or before the date of
commencement of the I Semester of 2014-15 so as to allot the specified courses and to place
them on the rolls of University.

Note:
1. Students belonging to SC/ST/ Category-I who are eligible for concession are required to
pay fees which are not reimbursable by the Government as per G.O. No. SWL 229 BCA 80
dated 16-12-1982 and as amended from time to time. Candidates must produce two
photocopies of caste certificate to claim concession of fees.
2. All fees indicated in the prospectus are subject to change.
3. Candidates may retain Photocopies of their category / income certificate since the originals
will be retained by the University at the time of admission.
4. NRIs / Foreign Nationals are required to submit the Application through Secretary, DARE,
Krishi Bhavan, New Delhi - 110 011, INDIA / Asst. Director General, HRD - I, ICAR,
Krishi Anusandhan Bhavan, New Delhi - 110 012, INDIA, through the respective Embassy
or The Government Concern, to the Registrar, UHS, Bagalkot. They are required to pay US
Dollars ($) 4000 per annum as Institutional Economic fees and the other prescribed fees.
However, the Institutional Economic Fees for candidates from SAARC countries is US
Dollars ($) 2000 per annum, besides prescribed fees.
5. Caution money is refundable only after successful completion of the Postgraduate degree
programme for which a candidate is admitted or on discontinuing the Postgraduate degree
programme on his / her request. The student shall claim the caution money after furnishing
a No Dues Certificate from all the concerned, after due notification by the Registrar.
6. Fees once paid by the student are non-refundable except Caution money deposit.

HOSTELS
Eligible students will be provided accommodation in the Hostels of respective
campuses, subject to the availability on ‘first come first serve basis’. The prescribed
application forms can be received from the office of the Hostel Warden on payment of Rs.
200/- in cash or through the crossed Indian Postal Order drawn in favour of the Warden of the
respective college and submit the same to the concerned Warden along with a self-addressed
and stamped cover before the commencement of the academic year.
The student shall pay the following fees at the time of admission to the hostel:

Note: In respect of SC/ST/Cat-1 students, the Mess Deposits shall be Rs. 10,000/- only.
The Mess Deposit is refundable to the students at the time of leaving the hostel, after
deducting the dues, if any.
The prescribed fees are subject to change from time to time.
In addition to the above fees, the boarder shall pay a room rent of Rs. 150/- per month (for
the rooms without attach bathroom) and Rs.250/-per month (for the rooms with attach
bathroom) along with maintenance fee of Rs.150/- per month and establishment charges of
Rs.200/- per month.
GENERAL INFORMATION
1. The students admitted to the University shall abide by the rules and regulations
prescribed by the University from time to time. Separate rules in respect of student
discipline in classrooms, hostels and campuses etc., are available in the University
Academic Information and Regulation Booklet.
2. All the students shall give an undertaking that he/she shall abide by the rules and
regulations of the University as amended from time to time.
3. The student failing to appear for Entrance Test / Counseling or in the payment of
prescribed fees within the stipulated date and time, the claim for admission will
automatically gets forfeited.
4. The right to change / modify any or all condition (s) prescribed in this prospectus is /
are at the sole discretion of the University.
5. If complaint of any form of ragging by a student comes to the notice of the
authorities, an opportunity would be given to the student to explain and in case the
student is found guilty, the concerned student would be expelled from the institution
in addition to initiating criminal proceedings.

1) For admission to Master’s Degree programme and Doctoral Degree programme,
representing the University at the Under-graduate Degree Programme and Master’s
Degree programme respectively, shall be taken in to consideration.
2) Sports & Games / Cultural activities which are recognized by the AIU (Sports
Division), New Delhi, shall only be considered.
3) The decision of the Admission Committee shall be final in determining the validity of
the certificate produced for award of marks.
4) The participation certificate in case of sports/ cultural/ NSS activities should be issued
by only the designated authority of the concerned University. Whereas, the certificate in
case I/II/III place issued by the organizing University will be considered.
5) The candidates claiming seats under Sports/NSS/ NSC/Cultural quota should appear
before the committee constituted and shall produce all the required original documents.

No new or additional production of documents is entertained at the time of Entrance
Test / Counseling.
INSTRUCTIONS TO CANDIDATES
The information / particulars furnished by the candidates in his/her application form is
final.
Submission of any other documents / certificates will not be entertained once the
applications are received in this office, except the OGPA/CGPA card/ PDC of
qualifying exams for which the last date of submission will be a day before the date
of entrance test
All the certificates produced to claim the reservations must be valid and dated on or
before the last date Prescribed for the submission of application.
Before submitting the filled in a application form to the Registrar, UHS, Bagalkot the
candidate should retain a photocopy of the filled in application form for reference /
correspondence.
Candidates belonging to Reserved Categories should submit the Caste / Income
certificate issued by the Tasildhar on or before 01.07.2014 in the prescribed Form - D
for SC/ST, Form - E for Category - I and Form - F for II-A, II-B, III-A and III-B
Categories.
The filled-in application forms should be complete in all respects including
submission of copies of the Marks card / all other Certificates applicable etc., as on
the last date of submission i.e. 01.07.2014 along with Fee Challan (UNIVERSITY COPY)
of Rs.1000/- (Rs. 500/- in case of SC/ST/ Cat-I candidates of Karnataka State only)
drawn in favour of the Comptroller UHS, Bagalkot, payable at Bagalkot purchased
between 04.06.2014 to 01.07.2014.
Entrance test shall cover the syllabi of all horticultural subject studied in Master’s
degree for Ph.D. programmes.
Entrance test shall cover syllabi of the subjects included under Bachelors degree for
the opted groups in case of Master’s degree programmes.
Candidates have to attend entrance test/ Counseling-cum-Admission at their own cost.
Admission to entrance test is subject to fulfillment of eligibility conditions prescribed
and only upon production of attested photo identity card.
No separate intimation will be sent to candidates for entrance test / Counseling-cum-
Admission or ineligibility of the candidacy
At the time of Admission-cum-Counseling selected candidate should pay prescribed
fees in the form of Cash as indicated above.
The selected candidates are required to join the course on the stipulated date by
submitting all original certificates and also register for the courses at the respective
Colleges, failure to which their claim for admission will be forfeited.
Failure to appear for entrance test / a admission and payment of prescribed fees will
result in forfeiting claim for admission.
The admission is subject to fulfillment of all the eligibility conditions prescribed as
per the UHS (B) rules / statutes / Government orders.
Any change in the schedule of events shall be announced on the University Website
and in leading News papers as News Brief. No separate intimation will be sent to
the candidates..

If any information furnished by the candidate or parents in the application form or
any documents produced are found to be false/incorrect, the admission of the
candidate will be cancelled at any point of time during his / her course of study and
the necessary criminal proceedings will be initiated..
Note: The late submitted and incomplete applications are liable to be rejected. For more
details refer, our University Website: www.uhsbagalkot.edu.in. The Application and PG
Prospectus 2014-15 can be downloaded from the University website and submit the
application enclosing prescribed Fees Challan (university Copy) obtained between
04.06.2014 to 01.07.2014 with necessary documents on or before 01.07.2014.
