Rayleen's project #1

 1. 1. The Salvation Army
By RayleenMeras
October 18th, 2010
2. 2. The Salvation Army was founded in London, England in 1865 by former Methodist minister William Booth.
Booth abandoned the conventional concept of a church and a pulpit, instead taking his message of spiritual salvation directly to the people – in particular the homeless, the hungry, and the destitute of Victorian-era London.
About The Salvation Army
3. 3. “The Salvation Army, an international movement, is an evangelical part of the universal Christian Church. Its message is based on the Bible. Its ministry is motivated by the love of God. Its mission is to preach the gospel of Jesus Christ and to meet human needs in His name without discrimination.”
Mission Statement
http://www.salvationarmyusa.org/usn/www_usn_2.nsf/vw-dynamic-index/C39F48A0880A31B780257325002FC87B?Opendocument
4. 4. Operations of The Salvation Army are supervised by trained, commissioned officers. They proclaim the gospel and have dedicated their lives, skills, and service completely to God in a very rote way. Lay members who subscribe to the doctrines of The Salvation Army are called soldiers. Along with officers, they are known as Salvationists.
We run and operate by contributions from the community and private organizations.
Inputs
5. 5. The Salvation Army’s
Goal is to spread the
Christian message
to the poor, destitute
and hungry by
meeting both their
physical and spiritual
needs.

The organization's ministry extends to all, regardless of age, gender, color or creed, without discrimination.

Outputs
6. 6. Almost all of our abilities come from supporters like you. Support comes in a breadth range of ways. 7. 7. Our Family Stores provide quality clothing, furniture and other goods to the community at bargain prices.
The Salvation Army's Adult Rehabilitation Centers are 100% funded from the proceeds of our Family Stores, allowing them to be self-sustaining.
Continued
8. 8. We operate in 121 countries and provide services in 175 different languages.
We are one of the world's largest providers of social aid, with expenditures including operating costs of $2.6 billion (in 2004), helping more than 32 million people in the U.S. alone.
Today we, the Salvation Army is best known for its charitable efforts
The Salvation Army is well-known for its network of thrift stores or Charity Shops, which raise money for its charitable and religious activities by selling donated used items such as clothing, housewares and toys.
Outcomes
9. 9. We are dedicated to bringing people into a meaningful relationship with God through Christ. Its doctrinal basis is that of the Wesleyan-Arminian tradition. It is composed of persons who are united by the love of God and man, and who share the common purpose of bringing others to Jesus Christ. The word salvation indicates the overall purpose of the organization—to motivate all people to embrace the salvation provided to them in Christ.
The Goal
11. 11. The Salvation Army is helping people to think Critically about their life's and how to put them back together again.
They teach them to:
Self-regulate by help keeping those in the rehabilitation homes by having them analyze their life and helping them set small goals for themselves to accomplish.
Seek truth by sharing the Biblical principals to them and making sure the love of God is shared with them.
How does this link to Critical Thinking?
12. 12. The Soldiers of the Salvation Army need to plan how they will be meeting the needs of the people.
They will need to use the skills they learned through their training and apply them when dealing with the public.
They will also need to uncover practical implications for those in the community who are striving for a better life.
How Does this link to Critical Action?
13. 13. The focus of the Foundation is to help Promote essential change in society.
Their secondary focus is to look for programs that look at interdependency and interplay of language and culture.
Your foundation can help increase funds to further help less fortunate families increase their interdependency.
Foundation For Thinking
14. 14. My father came to America in 1968 from Cuba. On his way here he had nothing to claim but the clothes on his back. No toys, no pictures, no memories. At the age of 9, he remembers the warm loving faces of The Salvation Army team. Dressed in bright red, this amazing group provided my father and his family with shelter as soon as they arrived and new toys for Christmas. My father would always share with my family this story of how the Salvation Army was the biggest blessing they received coming to America.
My Personal Connection
