  • 4. Frequently Asked Questions
    • STORIES
    • His ideas come from lots of places. He was standing in the kitchen one day when he saw two ants on the counter top which gave him the idea for the book Two Bad Ants.
    • To create his books he first starts with his stories before even planning his pictures.
    • ILLUSTRATIONS
    • His illustrations are creative because some are black and white and others are color. His illustrations are also very good for someone who didn’t go to art school.
    • His first books were in black and white and he didn’t really care he painted them black and white because he liked it that way. He started making his pictures more colorful as he got older and now some of his pictures are black and white and some are color.

    • In his stories Chris Van Allsburg likes adding cliffhangers and making you really think about what you just read.
    • When he was a child he played games like Monopoly. At the end of the games he only had fake money. After that he thought it would be cool if they actually came to life. That is how he came up with the idea for Jumanji.
  • 6. Fritz the dog!
    • His brother just got a Bull Terrier so he used him to model his art work. Sadly the dog died when he was very young. After that he decided to put Fritz in a small part of all his books even if it just shows his tail.
In his first book he made it had a dog named Fritz in it. When he decided what kind of dog Fritz would be he decided it should be a Bull Terrier.

    • Chris Van Allsburg’s books are different from many others because his stories have great cliffhangers and story endings.
  • 8. Favorite book!
    • My favorite book of his is Jumanji. I like the way he got the idea of the book. I also like how the boy just turned around and a lion was just sitting on the piano. Also how it started pouring down rain in the house.
  • 9.
    • I learned all about his childhood and his life as an author and much more.
