  • This slide shows the big picture esp. for SAP customers (animated).Core business processes for SAP customers run in Business Suite / ERPVirtually all SAP customers (and the SBOP-only customers !!!) run 3rd party apps and databases that also contain BI-relevant information. Many customers will use some ‘information architecture’ to further collect, digest, massage, … data e.g. a data warehouse or specific data cleansing or integration tools. In SAP terms, you would find the classical EIM capabilities and SAP BW in this partThe focus of this presentation is the top layer to actually view and create BI artifacts (reports, dashboards, …). As said before, standardization across the stack will help to save costs and have better data quality. Highlighted in green are the contents of the BI package (as you can see, very comprehensive). Besides all the BI components, it also contains data federator (to federate data from multiple sources) and the Metadata Manager for data lineage and impact analysis (to actually see where the data came from).Notes: In the current BI package (Q2 / 2010), Voyager is contained as OLAP client. This is intended to be replaced by Advanced Analysis once it’s generally available. If you have SBOP-only customers, you might consider to remove the blue SAP blocks by the customer-specific solutions. The overall picture will fit to most other vendors as well (e.g. Oracle as ERP, Teradata as data warehouse, SharePoint as portal…)
  • SAP BusinessObjects Data Integrator helps organizations easily explore, transform, and move data anywhere at any frequency. It has three main advantages over other ETL tools available in the market. The first is productivity. It’s graphic interface avoids all need for hand-coding, and so it’s uniquely suited to today’s fast moving environments, where the question is not when you’ll have to change your ETL processes, but simply how often. The second is that it delivers extreme scalability. BusinessObjects data integrator uses full parallelism, intelligent distributed processing, and powerful transformations to give you the performance you need. The last and most important differentiator is that it fully supports trusted information, with deep integration with the other parts of our EIM platform. For example, when one of the data transformations has to change, or a new source of data is integrated, the IT department can quickly and easily determine the end-to-end impact analysis — in other words, what reports or dashboards will be impacted by the change. Today, this is typically a very manual, time-intensive process. Our data transformation offer also includes Rapid Marts, which are data marts preconfigured for particular ERP systems such as SAP and Oracle. If you have one of these systems, we already know it’s structure, what technical processes are required to extract information, which fields you probably want to do analysis on, and what reports you’ll typically find the most useful. You simply need to provide the parameters that are specific to your system, and you have actionable information and reports in a fraction of the time you would take to create it yourself from scratch.
  • SAP BusinessObjects Rapid Marts packages are preconfigured jumpstart blueprints that deliver best practice ETL mappings and BI content, accelerating the deployment of end-to-end departmental BI solutions for key subject areas across major enterprise applications:SAP and Oracle family (Oracle E-BS, PeopleSoft, and Siebel)Each Rapid Mart provides preconfigured best practicesto address the BI needs of a specific subject area or functional department like accounting, sales, or purchasing. A component-based framework allows integrated solutions to conduct reporting and analysis across selected business areas by combining different packages within the same source application suiteRapid Marts focus on standard configuration of the enterprise applications. They require customization work to fit 100% customer requirements. They are meantto be easily extended and customized to suit customer-specific application implementation and departmental BI needs Rapid Marts leverage SAP BusinessObjects technologies: SAP BusinessObjects Data Services and SAP BusinessObjects Enterprise (Universe Designer and Web Intelligence)Appropriate BI and BOBJ skills are alwaysrequired to proceed with the required extension and customization
  • Rapid Marts by nature are country and industry neutral (except Oracle Federal Financials)Enterprise application support: SAP ERP releases since R/3 4.6through to ECC 6Oracle EBS 11i (11.5.3 and above) and R12PeopleSoft 8.8 and aboveSiebel 7.5 and aboveRapidMart upgrade process:No Rapid Mart upgrade is required whencustomers upgrade their SAP applicationsFor Oracle EBS, PeopleSoft, and Siebel, if there are any changes in the application that affect the Rapid Marts, we provide an incremental ETL package with detailed instructions how to apply them to the original Rapid Mart. We also provide detailed description of what has changed in the application for the customer to validate if it is relevant to their Rapid Mart implementation.Details for the suite of SAP BusinessObjects RapidMart packages, version for SAP solutions:Finance:General Ledger Rapid Mart is designed to report data from the Finance (FI) module of SAP Applications and Profit Center Accounting from the Enterprise Controlling (EC) mode. Both Classic GL and New GL are included in the Rapid Mart. Accounts Receivable Rapid Mart extracts data from SAP solutions FI module, which covers the financial accounting process of accounts receivable. Accounts Payable Rapid Mart extracts data from SAP solutions FI and MM modules. These modules cover the financial accounting process of accounts payable and purchase order information. Cost Center Rapid Mart is designed to handle data from the controlling (CO) module of SAP solutions. This Rapid Mart enables businesses to manage and monitor expenses and meet internal accounting needs for users within management, marketing, finance, accounting, sales, and manufacturing.Manufacturing:Plant Maintenance Rapid Mart extracts data from the plant maintenance (PM) module of SAP solutions. This data is used to analyze, manage, and plan issues related to plant maintenance Production Planning Rapid Mart enables you to analyze the planning components that automate the production process. The data is extracted from Production Planning and Control (PP) moduleProject Systems Rapid Mart supports analysis of project information entered within the Project System (PS) module. It provides a framework for monitoring projects progress, resources, costs and revenueOperations:Sales Rapid Mart supports analysis of data in the Sales and Distribution (SD) module of SAP solutions. This Rapid Mart allows businesses to analyze inquiries, quotations, sales contracts, sales orders, deliveries, customer invoices, and returnsInventory Rapid Mart supports analysis of material stock levels, as maintained in the Inventory Management (MM-IM) module. Analysis of stock levels helps to establish an optimally sized buffer between finished goods supply and demandPurchasing Rapid Mart supports analysis of purchasing activities initiated within the Material Management (MM-PUR) module. Access to information about procuring materials and services is important to meet production schedules, maintain stock levels, and meet internal needs for materials consumed within the companyHuman Capital Management:HR Rapid Mart supports analysis of administration, benefits, leave entitlement, and payroll related information. Using the Rapid Mart, you will better understand the personnel management and compensation programs within the company

  • Use Criteria DI / PI Criteria Huge/Bulk Data Volume Small, in transactions/messages Scheduled Process Operation Event triggered Data Latency Real-time to near Real-time Record and Set level – direct table, file, log access Data Operations Object (Transaction) level – application APIs Data Transformation Complex, multi-step, calculations and aggregations Process Integrator Data Integrator Notes DI can move huge amount of data (billions of records) in a non-transactional mode. PI can process a large number messages containing small amount of data efficiently DI processing is typically scheduled, it does have capability to receive events via web services or other means and process these events Data latency with DI tends to be larger (in order of minutes) DI can process individual records or sets of them and is typically not application aware. PI is more suited for individual objects and is application aware. DI does well in applying complex transformations needed for DW or data migration 1:1 Data Distribution Cardinality from source to target (transaction mode) 1:N N:1 Complex data propagation from a number of sources to targets is done well by PI retaining the characteristics of the transactions, support Pub-Sub mechanism. DI can do simple point-to-point data propagation. N:M Distributed Transactions Coordinated commits and rollbacks No capability in DI for this Simple Multi-step with human interaction DI workflows tend to be simple having to do with process sequencing and error handling, PI has true WF & BPM capabilities Guaranteed delivery, recovery DI does not support this in a robust fashion Workflows Transaction Integrity © SAP AG 2010.
