    • Stikeman Elliott is an international business law firm based in Toronto, Ontario, Canada.
    • The Firm Started with two lawyers in 1952 and today operates with more then 440 lawyers in Eight offices in Canada, New York, London and Sydney.
    • It works in merger and acquisitions, Anti trust, Banking and Finance, Insolvency and Technology.
    • It is one of the top business law firm in Canada.

    • Lawyers basically takes clue from past judgments mainly so having a common platform was hindrance in a Growth
    • Even everybody was compelled to have his own knowledge bank which translates into duplication of the data

    • In 2001, stikeman Elliott adopt Hummingbird Enterprise Webtop
    • from Hummingbird Ltd., to build a portal for the firm’s corporate
    • intranet.
    • The portal officially launched in 2002 under the name STELLA.
    • With help of this portal firms lawyers have easy access to the
    • firm’s knowledge assets.
    • STELLA includes an expert Database that identify lawyers with proficiency in specific areas.
    • Lawyers can customize the portal’s home page so that they have quick
    •   access to the information they need most.

    • Distributed knowledge resources.
    • Stikeman’s Offices, employees, and knowledge resources are distributed in many locations so they are facing problem in sharing knowledge among their employees.
    • Unorganized Knowledge System :
    • Stikeman Elliott have very vast knowledge reside in the brain of the lawyer, and in the form of text documents, reports, e-mail, voice mail, brochures, but due to unorganized knowledge system they cant get the proper benefit of it.

    • To solve the problem of sharing, store and distribute knowledge firm have to build a proper knowledge management system.
