Faison 1 Taking the job of a Police Officer may seem exciting and adventurous ontelevision but in reality it‟s actually more challenging. An Officers duty is to enforce thelaw out to the people around communities that he or she is patrolling. Officers arecontinuously taking life changing and as well as dangerous risk that can affect or evenend their lives. Cops take on different“Roles” on their jobs, they are faced with manydifferent “Requirements” that are needed in the field of Law Enforcement, Alsosometimes the challenging “Duties” that they are set against in many types ofenvironments and locations. It is very importance for Police Officers to beknowledgeable for any assignments they go into. Some people might feel that policeofficers are at times are “Not doing the job right” And that the can be unfair in situationsthat take place on a daily bases, without the help of officer protecting the differentcommunities whether it looks good or bad to the public‟s eyes, Officer are only trying tomake the word somewhat a better place. Police take on a number of roles in our communities, whether it‟s enforcing thelaw and regulations that are created by government officials to protect lives of people andtheir property. One thingOfficers took a huge role in recently was “Wall StreetOccupation” The Occupy movement is an international protest movement that is pointingat the widening inequality in America. ////This directed against includes people thatdefend properties that are being foreclosed, take over vacant properties due to homelessfamilies which causes a massive rid of the victims to behave in a way that only Officerscould control. Even though the victims were allowedback into the park after the cleanup was done, they refused to leave, Officers had no otherchose but to make several arrest on this mass day of action. Most lager cities or communities are required to have a four year degree inCriminal Justice, On the other hand smaller communities accept only a high schooldiploma.Though some departments hire people who have a high school diploma,applicants with an associate‟s or bachelor‟s degree may be preferred. Numerous statesand federal agencies require a bachelor‟s degree, and most people don‟t receive theseuntil they are at least 21, Also Jobs with state or federal peace keeping and investigatoryagencies usually require a person to be 21. Rising Police Officers have to keep in mindthat the amount of education a person receive when trying to pursue a successful careerinto becoming an Officerwill affect the salary and benefits they earn, Entering the field aperson will be expected to earn between 22,000 but as low as 18,000 a year. Averagesalary estimated at 34,000 and even higher depending on how high a person climbs thelatter of more education. Being physically and mentally prepared is also a bigrequirement as an officer. The (POT) which is a 16 week long program must becompleted broken into four weeks filling up on not only physical but mental skills as tobecoming a police Officer. Showing good communication skills, good judgments anddecision making skills are very well required also.

The “ International Code Of Ethics‟ States that “As a PoliceOfficer fundamental duty is to serve mankind: to safe guard lives and property, to protectthe innocent against deception the weak against oppression or oppression or intimidation,and the peaceful against violence or disorder, respect the constitutional rights of all mento liberty, equality and justice”. This one statement explain almost everything about whyofficers are required to follow by law due to not following these regulations an Officercan lose their job on the spot. The power of a police officer lies in his ability to enforcingthe law. Although, the rules governing duties of police officer differ from countries allacross the world, their basic responsibilities dont change. The duties that officers areassigned to on a daily bases are responding to crimes in progress, Patrolling assignedareas while maintaining public safety.The police have a range of measures they can usedue to enforcing the law, though these relate to the crime. They can write a ticket, issue asimple warning or arrest someone. When entering a crime scene there duty is to interviewwitnesses and suspects relating to the event that occurred or have taken place. Collectingevidents and writing reports are important also because with the leading of an officershowing up on a crime scene they are authorized to appearing in court and stating atestimony of their own. As you can see Police Officer‟s face many challenges on their job. Making theworld a better place is there goal and most cops make it to their best ability to reach thatpoint.
