Due to the close Results of the gender question I have
the option of either choosing to have my magazine
appeal to both genders or one.
As the majority of people who took part in my
questionnaire were between the ages of 15 and
20, it helps me allocate a target audience for my
magazine in which I will have to research.
These results reveal that there is a diverse ethnic
audience within schools in London however, that is
not the case around the UK. This would influence
me to make the magazine appeal to a diversely
cultured range of teenagers as London is the most
well known city within England.
Although R&B is the most popular choice, Pop is close
behind and so I could either base my magazine on both
or put it in a more narrow direction.
The most popular magazines were Top of the Pops and VIBE
representing a contrast. Using this information I will try and
interpret both of the styles (being the professional and more
sophisticated style of the Vibe and the more vibrant and
colourful style of the Top of the Pops) and create a new and
more modern magazine with the best of both magazines.
As the majority chose ‘other’ as their dream career choice this suggests
that the audience I will be directing my magazine to should not only
reflect their ambitions but due to the endless possibilities of a wide
range of careers; I should include inspirational stories about icons.
This will make my audience put themselves in their idols shoes and
believe that they can also succeed.
As the majority of the result reveals that the weekly disposable income
is £10. I will have to make my magazine a reasonable price that will
allow the teenagers to have enough left over to enjoy themselves but
expensive enough to make a profit and become recognised.
As lion’s are seen to be the most popular choice, this tell me
that I should be using my magazine to reflect power and
respect which is what the majority of my audience either
want or think they have and want a magazine to reflect that
superiority.
• Directing at Females
• The most popular age group was over 15s.
• Both VIBE and Top of the Pops are the most
        bought magazines.
• Music wise R&B and Pop are found to be the
        most popular.
     £10 average budget weekly.
     They care about their
          education and are eager for
          success.
    • Chosen animal – lion
          suggesting power.

Editor's Notes

  1. Hi my name is Raquel, and this is a presentation on research I have recently carried out by creating a survey on the site Questionpro, I used social networks like Facebook to advertise my survey and I was able to attain a large sample of the population and gather valid data to try and identify my magazines targeted demographic.
  2. My first question was used to find out which gender my magazine was going to be addressed to. However, my results revealed something different to what I was originally expecting: as Males was most popular with 51%. Due to this revelation I have decided to have my magazine appeal instead to females or in this case the niche audience.
  3. My second graph has pointed me in the direction of which age group of my demographic I should be focusing on and which I should consider when designing my magazine. The results revealed that I will be appealing to 15 to 20 year olds.
  4. My next graph presents a varied set of results as Caucasian, Asian as well as Other were the most popular ethnic groups. Theses results revealed that schools within London are diversely ethnic however, this is not the same case for schools around the Uk. So taking account these results I am going to try and represent different ethnic groups within my magazine.
  5. The most popular choice's for music genres were R&B and Pop, which are both influential and considered the mainstream of the music industry as they both represent a large fanbase. So I am going to try and represent both genres within my magazine.
  6. Two main magazines were Top of the pOps and Vibe.I am going to try and interpret both styles of these magazines into my magazine and make it fun and sophisticated. So that my audience can be educated and relax.
  7. The fact that my participants have revealed that they do not follow the typical mainstream and go for most obvious job choices shows me that my audience are ambitious, care about their education and are eager for success.
  8. This graph revealed that the majority of students were receiving £10 a week. Which would affect my magaines price as I will be making more affordable.
  9. The most popular animal was a lion which represents a power which most of the applicants either want or believe they have. So I am goin to try and interpret this within typography and some of my images.
