Design: Unmanned/ Teleoperated robotic vehicles were developed with multi-terrain platforms, assisted by global positioning systems, computer aided vision, ultra-sonic sensors, infrared sensors, laser range finders (LIDAR), power electronics/ motor driver circuit design, Microcontroller, and wheel encoders. Project: Intelligent 3-Axis Gimbal Camera Stabilizer for Autonomous or Remotely Operated Vehicles Design: A 3-axis gimbal was created to control yaw, pitch, and roll to stabilize a camera mounted on an autonomous or remotely operated vehicle. The gimbal kept the camera at a set angle, either autonomously with preset angles or through teleportation angles (Networked UDP packets) given to it by a user, on all three axes with respect to the ground. The gimbal also had the ability to change the height of the camera, going to an exact height using a custom made string potentiometer and linear actuator. Some other electronics used to make this project possible was a PC- 104 Embedded ARM board running Linux for the embedded real time system, an analog to digital daughter board, serial servo controller, 3-axis gyroscope and a 3-axis accelerometer. Project: Robotic Obstacle Avoidance using Ultra-Sonic and Triangulated Five-Beam Infrared Sensors Design: To be used as a sub-system on an autonomous robot, an array of five ultra-sonic and three multi-beam infrared sensors where hooked to an Embedded ARM board and used in order to avoid obstacles in front and on the sides of an unmanned vehicle. Sensor fusion was used to accomplish this goal successfully.
  • Project: Intelligent Sprinkler-Embedded Real Time System Design: Using an embedded Motorola HC11, assisted by a temperature, humidity, ground moisture, and rain sensor. A fully autonomous residential/commercial sprinkler system was constructed to water lawns and gardens when needed, thus saving millions of gallons of water a year.
