    1. Expert Witness - Forensic Expert - Litigation Support - Speaker Bureau Randa Abdelal, Pharm.D. has a doctorate in pharmacy & has experience in retail, hospital clinical, pediatrics/neonatal, home health, hospice, long-term care, academia, and pharmaceutical industry experience. Her practice includes dose adjustments of intravenous drugs on an inpatient setting, clinical initiatives involving developing policies & protocols involving drug administration & drug guidelines, patient-focused pharmaceutical care, and the provision of drug information/literature evaluation, drug dispensing & delivery services, and routinely review patient drug regimens to make recommendations on ways to optimize therapy with emphasis on assessing adverse drug reactions, drug interactions, and medication errors. Drug-related morbidity has been the primary theme of her work experience. Services Dr. Abdelal, as an expert in pharmacy practice, is responsible for ensuring the safe, effective, appropriate, and economical use of drugs in patient care settings. As a doctor of pharmacy, she assumes responsibility for direct patient care as a member of a multidisciplinary team, and serves as the primary source of drug information for other healthcare professionals. Medication-related problems that she routinely evaluates, assesses, and manages include: Improper drug selection Overdosage Handling & the management of High Risk Medications Drug toxicity Adverse drug reactions Drug interactions Drug administration errors Sub-therapeutic drug dosing Medication non-compliance Medication use without indication Medication occurrences Because of the highly regulated nature of pharmacy practice, as a doctor in pharmacy, she is well versed in addressing a variety of administrative pharmacy issues, including: compliance with regulatory bodies (e.g., State/Federal licensing boards, TJC, FDA); drug procurement; institutional and community drug distribution systems; controlled substances and the DEA; managed care principles and practice; and insurance company and third-party reimbursement. Dr. Abdelal's experience in dealing with medication-related problems, combined with her ability to evaluate causal relationships between exposure to drugs and subsequent effects, provides for valuable expertise that can be used to elucidate potential factors in a legal case. Perhaps equally as important as her knowledge in pharmacology and the practice of pharmacy is the fact that she is skilled at effectively communicating complex drug regimens and technical information to non-technical people. Additionally, in the eyes of the public, the pharmacist has been rated the most honest and ethical healthcare professional for many years running as determined by annual Gallup Polls. These attributes combine to make for an expert who can relate well to a jury. She received a Doctorate Of Pharmacy (Pharm.D.) from University of Arkansas Medical Sciences University in Little Rock, AK. She received her completed her Pharm.D. Internship in Ambulatory Adult Care from the University Hospital of UAMS and then received specialized training in Pediatric & Neonatal Care. She currently serves as the co-chair of pharmacy/therapeutics at Saint Peter's University Hospital, in New Brunswick New Jersey. She has practiced as a clinical coordinator in acute care hospital settings for 7 years. Before that she was a Drug Safety Associate at Pfizer Pharmaceutics, in the government/regulatory affairs department and clinical research dealing mainly with local submission of safety cases (serious & non-serious cases) of select drugs, among which were Lipitor, Viagra, Depo-Provera, Prem-Pro. Among cases involving these agents, Dr. Abdelal also revised drug package inserts & served as a pharmacology expert witness in litigations involved with the combination hormonal drug, Depo-Provera. She chairs the Anticoagulation Therapy Subcommittee at Saint Peter's University Hospital (SPUH) & developed a warfarin (Coumadin) & heparin protocol programs to insure the safe & appropriate therapy of these two High Risk Agents to patients, on an inpatient as well as an outpatient setting. Dr. Abdelal also co-chairs the drug-related morbidity subcommittees at SPUH. As a clinical pharmacist, she directed, developed, & worked as an information specialist at four university-based drug information centers. Dr. Abdelal is currently in the process of developing a university hospital-based anticoagulation point of care clinic at SPUH. She has held membership and served as an officer in various professional organizations.
