The foundation work
of the cluster in the
South-eastern
corner has started.
The construction

Building blocks of vaidyagrAma
The ramming of mud for the wall construction started in September,
and the month saw the construction to two levels up till the beam level
of the building at vaidyagrAma.
Rammed earth is a composite mixture of mud, fly-ash, quarry dust as
well as cement in around 5% ratio. The steel band that is inserted
amidst levels of rammed earth blocks makes the construction earth-
quake resistant.

Another eco-friendly move is the use of Baliapatinam tiles
mainly made of mud, for the roofs. It will allow good
cooling and better air circulation in the buildings at
vaidyagrAma . . .

The land of vaidyagrAma has become home to two
calves from the month of September. . .

Some of the visitors were happy to join the Green
movement, and they planted trees in the land, and
, yp ,
thus expressed their oneness with the cause of
vaidyagrAma. . .

The Green Move at vaidyagrAma . . .
September saw the land of vaidyagrAma getting greener with more than
greener,
300 plants of different varieties were got to be planted there. This
includes medicinal herbs, flowering trees, fruit trees as well as
vegetable plantations.
To name a few are plants of Turmeric, Adatoda, Black-gram, Ladies
Turmeric Adatoda Black gram
Finger, Tomato, Cluster beans, Thulasi . . . Masha (Urad dal) is being
grown in an acre of freshly ploughed land in vaidyagrAma.

Around 100 cement bags were recycled, and it is where some
of the plants are being grown. Thi is an accepted and good

way of growing plants, and it can hold them for 8-10
months, by when each of the plants can be found its real
p
place to be…

We have started making vermicompost at vaidyagrAma.
The three sacks of the mixture in different
proportions will be ready with the compost for
manure in the garden, within a month.

In this journey to the Green & natural,
we have been doing trials
& have been successful with the results. . .
One of them was to make a special herbal medicine with Neem Oil for
the good health of the calves at vaidyagrAma. There is also a
herbal mixture prepared for care of skin conditions of the calves.
Both of these have been effective and it is seen as a good
effective,
alternative to the usual use of chemical medicines for the purpose.
Using Authentic Ayurveda for Universal Well-being is the Vision of
Punarnava Ayurveda; & in its own small ways, it is on its journey to
the Vision. The same herbal medicines are being given to the care
of cattle in the neighborhood too, and it is being appreciated well
too.

Another special endeavour in vaidyagrAma has been making of
Candles…
In its mission of resource management and wise use of energy, the
thought of making candles came. It should be interesting to note
that these candles are made with differing ratios of waste oil as
well as beeswax, and strong thread for wick. The oil is the residue
from the Ayurveda treatments, and it finds a renewed life this
way. Though it is made from residue oil, these candles leave no
residue in the small mud pots in which they are.
Our special candles spread light for almost 2&1/2 to 3&1/2 hours.
For the candles to stand the test of the breeze from the
Western Ghats, we have innovated banana stem cuttings to be its
Ghats
shades that will guard the flame as well as make the ambience
prettier with its green colour diffusing the yellow light into an
orange glow.

The site office at vaidyagrAma has been given a rustic feel to it, with
the thatched roof in the facade as well as the traditional kind of
fencing made with cut branches of trees. There are plants also grown
trees
inside the fencing, and all this has made the place cooler and
pleasanter to be…

A special space to meet . . . to share ideas. . . To be. That
is what vaidyagrAma ’s new thatched hut is to be….
Open on all sides, this hut has a thatched roof as well as the
Kadapa/ Cuddapah stone benches all around inside, to sit.
The pillars are made of the compressed rammed earth-blocks
earth-blocks.
The feel of the place is positive, & it is where meetings,
talks will happen now in vaidyagrAma.

A Ganapathy Homam was conducted at the land of
vaidyagrAma,

The Journey to vaidyagrAma . . .
* The Ayurveda Healing Village vaidyagrAma is being created in the
green land in the outskirts of Coimbatore – India…. in the most
natural, most environment-friendly way.
* With all the good wishes, the construction of the healing village
has commenced in the land. The foundation for the first Hospital
is laid, and the process is going on. It consists of 3 clusters each
with 3 hospital blocks, each consisting of 4 patient rooms, 1
treatment room, Therapists block & the Physicians Block. The
Phase 1 of vaidyagrAma, which will be open to the world by April
2009, can accommodate almost 100 patients.
* The aim is to create a most natural healing space, in all aspects, &
hence the effort to make & maintain the structure as natural as
possible. There has been use of special mud walls; with the usage
of natural mud & binders available the eff rt is t reduce the
f available, effort to
usage of cement. A herbal termite treatment is given, thus
making even the construction, most eco-friendly as possible. The
commitment is to create a truly natural Ayurveda hospital that is
based on the textual dictates, and yet that suits contemporary
dictates
times.

* Towards the realistic goal of self-sufficiency to a greater extent,
vaidyagrAma is taking its step forward. A nursery has been
initiated for the medicinal plants in the premises itself
plants, itself.
* It is a matter of days when these clusters will take form, as
envisaged in the concept of vaidyagrAma, the holistic healing
village.
