  1. 1. Burial Processes Of Ancient Egyptians Assignment 2. Create a power point display on the burial processes of ancient Egyptians
  2. 2. <ul><li>The Ancient Egyptians had a fine detail set of burial customs that they believed were necessary to ensure their immortality after death. These rituals included mummification- casting of a variety of magic spells, and a burial with specific grave goods thought to be needed in the afterlife includes pets. The burial process used by the Ancient Egyptians evolved throughout time as old customs were discarded and new ones adopted, but several important elements of the process persisted. Although specific details changed over time, the preparation of the body, the magic rituals involved, and the grave goods provided were all essential parts of a proper Egyptian Burial Process </li></ul>
  3. 3. Steps of Mummification <ul><li>1.The first step to mummification is extracting the organs and the brain. The Brain is extracted using a hook which is shoved through the nose (they try to pull out as much as much brain fluids as possible). They took out mid body organs by cutting through the left side of the body. The organs were placed in canopic jars. </li></ul>
  4. 4. <ul><li>The heart was left in body because ancient Egyptians believed that God Anubis could weigh the heart prior to guiding the dead through the underworld. </li></ul>
  5. 5. <ul><li>2. The dead body was covered in a substance called Natron and then left to dry for 40 days. </li></ul>
  6. 6. <ul><li>3. Forty days later the body is then filled with sawdust to lessen the limp and lifeless appearance. </li></ul><ul><li>4. Then the body was washed in wine and spices, wrapped in linen and left to dry for another 30 days. </li></ul><ul><li>END of Mummification </li></ul>

The Burial <ul><li>Once mummified the body would be put into a case then into a coffin and then into a Sarcophagus </li></ul><ul><li>-The coffin and sacrophagus would be decorated </li></ul><ul><li>-pets were mummified to </li></ul><ul><li>-if not that wealthy they would be buried into a tomb in the sand </li></ul><ul><li>The hot, dry sand would preserve you naturally </li></ul>
