Uav project

  1. 1. ENGG4800 Project Presentation 1
  2. 2.  Introduction Project description Project goals Budget Schedule Risk assessment Conclusion & Recommendation 2
  3. 3.  Very useful for efficiently surveilling a large area for many reasons: ◦ Battlefield intelligence ◦ Searching for minerals ◦ Border control ◦ Bush fire ◦ Search and rescue ◦ Police work ◦ Environment and biological sensing 3
  4. 4.  Objective - to develop a UAV system that can be used for missions that are too dull, dirty or dangerous for manned aircraft The system will essentially be a distributed fleet of UAV’s that interact with each other ◦ Also known as a MultiAgent system ◦ Each UAV has a specific task that contributes to the mission goal 4
  5. 5.  Use a variety of sensors such as laser vision, optic sensors, thermo vision, GPS The UAV should be of military standard Should perform well Robust in harsh conditions Meet all requirements for designated applications (military, mineral exploration) ◦ Flight time / duration ◦ Range ◦ Communication capability 5
  6. 6. Time Performance CostConstrainEnhanceAccept 6
  7. 7.  Project will take approximately 14 months to develop This is based on a team of 9 engineers, 2 trades people and the project manager 7
  8. 8. 8
  9. 9.  Material cost per UAV is ~$20,000 Labour cost of $1.5 million Overhead costs estimated to be ~$80,000 9
  10. 10. 1. Project may not be complete in a reasonable time2. Project cost exceed the estimated cost3. Vital resources not available for successful completion4. Damage to UAV during testing and development5. Safety of employees – follow CASA (Civil Aviation Safety Authority) operation, airworthiness and regulation policies6. Change in the scope and specifications of the project7. Delay in acquiring of parts8. Poor weather conditions leading to delay in testing phase9. Component failure 10
  11. 11.  The development costs far exceed the material costs! ◦ Project only viable if implemented on a medium to large scale Latest technology surveillance equipment is in high demand ◦ Military, safety, exploration will benefit Commercial potential ◦ Agriculture, mining ◦ The technology may be patented thereby securing licenses Great potential for a high return on investment ◦ 2007: $5billion; 2010: $12billion! 11
