In his book "Transforming India" Atanu Dey imagines India as a developed country by the year 2040, transformed from a poor economy to one of the highly developed economies of the world. It's a well written, concise book that can be read in a short time. I am summarizing the book, highlighting the desired state of economy in 2040, problems faced by economy earlier and the changes needed to achieve the desired growth. I believe this is the time when educated working people of India need to understand India's socio-economic environment and think about the changes that are needed. I believe there is a need of a self-managed society of educated working class people, primarily living in urban areas, that participates in socio-economic issues such as public policy, education, infrastructure development, political system, national security, financial system, etc. The book gives an overall picture of the core developmental needs of the economy from both micro and macro perspectives without using economic jargon. The book was written in 2010 but the ideas are relevant today.
