  • 1. MET DRUGS AL~ MOU BHATTACHARYA~ SUDESHNA SAHA
  • 2. GOLD DRUG~ MOU BHATTACHARYA,Chem III yr.
  • 3. INTRODUCTION GOLD ~ Au 79
  • 4. USE OF GOLD IN ANCIENT TIMES
  • 5. PROGRESS● In 19th century, a mixture of GOLD CHLORIDE & SADIUM CHLORIDE,`Muriate of Gold & Soda`, Na[AuCl 4] was used to treat SYPHILLS.● In 20th century, the GERMAN Bacteriologist ROBERT KOCH, discovered that GOLD CYANIDE, K[Au(CN)2] was bacteriostatic towards the tubercle bacillus.● The element GOLD appears to slow the degradation of Collagen and stimulate the growth of skin cells, making it an ideal anti aging treatment.
  • 6. PROGRESS Gold is also highly resistant to Bacteria and can be used to prevent the growth in dangerous infections. So it can be used as artificial implants.
  • 7. PROGRESS♦ In recent years, some new Gold III compounds, i.e Organogold compounds have been prepared, that are sufficiently stable under physiological conditions and are promising candidate for Pharmacological testing as Cytotoxic and Antitumor agent.
  • 8. PROGRESS One of the most important discoveries surrounding the element is, its use in CANCER treatment , by injecting radio active Gold isotopes into targeted sites in the body, allowing for successful treatment of the diseases, without lot of the common side effects of traditional radiation.
  • 9. PROGRESS♦ Gold compounds have been used for the treatment of rheumatoid arthritis and other autoimmune diseases for more than 75 years.
  • 10. PROGRESS♦ Gold also has been use for clinical purpose in the pregnancy testing.
  • 11. SIDE EFFECT►It has been suggested that Gold III produced from Gold I drugs might involved in the toxic side effects encountered in Chrysotherapy.►GOLD SODIUM THIOMALATE - injection, used to treat active RHEUMATOID ARTHRITIS, can cause serious (sometimes fatal) side effects, including blood cell problems (e.g., ANEMIA, low white blood cells/platelets), kidney problems, RASH, ITCHING, or mouth sores/irritation ( stomatitis )
  • 12. FUTURE►The dawn of the nano-age‘ has further broadened the potential of gold in biomedical applications and it is exciting to see the outcome of this clinical trial, which suggests that gold can act as an effective and safe drug delivery system.
  • 13. FUTURE An anti-cancer drug, loosely attached to gold nanoparticles , starts accumulating deep inside tumors within minutes of injection and can be activated for an effective treatment within two hours whereas the same drug Injected alone takes two days & it has no toxic effectsas after delivering the drug, the nano particles passesthrough the Kidneys and clear the body within a week.
  • 14. FUTURE►The metaphorical gold standard of medical treatment might one day turn out to be a literal gold treatment. By attaching the drug to gold nanoparticles, researchers hoped to improve the drugs binding power to HIV.
  • 15. GOLD DRUGS FOR RHEUMATOID ARTHRITIS• SODIUM AUROTHIOMALATE• AUROTHIOGLUCOSE• AURANOFIN
  • 16. ANTICANCER GOLD DRUGS
  • 17. ANTITUMOUR & ANTIBACTERIAL GOLD DRUGS
  • 18. Conclusion…``Gold and nanotechnology in the age of innovation is ‘Gold for Good’ ``. …next… Platinum drugs…
