  1. 1. GUJARAT A SNAPSHOT OF INCLUSIVE GROWTH & DEVELOPMENT Compiled By: twitter.com/modrightview
  2. 2. GUJARAT A SNAPSHOT OF INCLUSIVE GROWTH AND DEVELOPMENT Under the visionary leadership of BHARATIYA JANTA PARTY & Shri NARENDRA MODI GDP INCOME / DEBT (Overall & Per Capita) INDUSTRIAL GROWTH EXPORTS POVERTY PARITY MALNUTRITION IMR & MMR (Infant & Maternal Mortality Rate) BIRTH & DEATH RATE* LITERACY RATE GIRL EDUCATION INDICES SEX RATIO SAFETY INDICES ROADS ELECTRIFICATION (Rural And Urban) TRANSPORTATION GOVERNANCE
  3. 3. Gujarat Contribution to INDIA • Gujarat contribution to overall Indian Economy • The chart clarifies that Gujarat is contributing to 25% of India’s exports which leads to high Foreign exchange earnings for India – thus helping out with trade deficit numbers • SOURCE: CMIE, ASI 2010-11, Economic Survey 2011-12
  4. 4. GDP • Gujarat Share in India’s GDP has gone up by almost 2 percentage points: near 30% jump in contribution
  5. 5. NET STATE DOMESTIC PRODUCT
  6. 6. Debt to GDP Ratio • While Debt to GDP ration for India has gone up, Gujarat has done better on that front by reducing the same by more than 50%
  7. 7. PER CAPITA NSDP
  8. 8. UNEMPLOYMENT
  9. 9. ‘PUCCA’ ROOF • Concrete roof is a sign of prosperity. With close to half households in Gujarat having a ‘Pucca’ roof over their head, (and a 33% increase in the last 10 years, while increasing the gap over national average) Gujarat shows India the way towards development that is ‘Inclusive’
  10. 10. • Birth Rate in isolation does not necessarily present a concrete indicator of healthcare facilities (A lower birth rate can simply signify that the state is doing a commendable job of population control).
  11. 11. HDI VALUE • The overall improvement in Gujarat HDI is more than India. If we look at 2001 numbers, Gujarat was at ~ 0.450 and between 01 & 08, the improvement has been substantial
  12. 12. HDI - INDIA • HDI 2001 – 0.450 (Ranking not known) • HDI 2007-08 – 0.527 (11th Rank) - Including Small states like Delhi, Sikkim, Pondicherry • India HDI Score – 0.467 – Kerala, Maharashtra, Tamil Nadu & (surprisingly) J&K are the only other Large states that have a higher HDI compared to Gujarat in 2007-08 2001 2007-08
  13. 13. IMR • IMR has come down from 60 to 41. This points to an improved healthcare system in the state • It has dropped to 37 in 2012
  14. 14. MMR
  15. 15. MALNUTRITION • When compared to other states, Gujarat performs exceptionally well • The comparison of malnutrition between 2007 and 2012 throws up interesting facts. Gujarat has almost halved the number of malnourished children • However, the number is still high and government is working to get this number down to single digit
  16. 16. POVERTY REDUCTION
  17. 17. GROWTH IN INEQUALITY • Change in Lorenz Ratio denotes the change in inequality between rich and the poor (i.e. Wealth distribution) • Gujarat has seen ZERO change in rural areas, whereas the same in Urban areas is 5% • India & the most literate state Kerala performs much worse
  18. 18. REMARKS • There is a huge scope for improvement in these numbers in the future. • Unfortunately, 2007-08 results for HDI came out in 2011. A lot of water has flown under the bridge since then (5 years of Modi rule have passed since then and thus the scope for improvement is much better in the next report (2012 report should be out in 2014/15) • Malnutrition which is often hyped to show that Gujarat has not developed, has seen a huge drop of close to 50%
  19. 19. SEX RATIO AT BIRTH • Gujarat sees a significant improvement in Sex-ratio at birth. This can be attributed to various government policies that have strictly clamped down on Radiology clinics which determined sex of featus
  20. 20. LITERACY RATE • Close to 80% literacy rate in Gujarat compared to 74% for India • Add to it almost 70% schools that have computer, compared to 22% pan-India • Source: Census Data and Indian & Gujarat Government Data
  21. 21. WOMEN LITERACY RATE
  22. 22. SCHOOL DROP-OUT RATE • Shows the emphasis on primary education by the state government. Once the foundation is in place during these formative years, it will help in improving drop-out rates for higher education as well.
  23. 23. SINGLE TEACHER SCHOOL • Again, emphasises the fact that government if focussed on promoting quality education at all levels • Multiple teachers in one school (even small villages) helps in improving quality of education and does not lead to students missing classes in case teacher is unavailable due to any reason

  25. 25. STEPS FOR WOMEN EMPOWERMENT

  30. 30. URBAN POPULATION
  31. 31. URBAN INFRASTRUCTURE • Internationally acclaimed urban transport model in BRTS. The same in Delhi is in shambles
  32. 32. RIVER CLEANING PROJECT
  33. 33. ELECTRICITY - A COMPARISON • Power generation has gone up by almost 4.5 times in the last 10 years • Surplus power which is then sold to other states • 100% villages have electricity
  34. 34. Rural electrification • FIRST LARGE STATE to have 100% Rural electrification
  35. 35. EXCELLENCE IN POWER SECTOR
  36. 36. SKILL DEVELOPMENT • Increase in number of ITI’s • Focussed approach towards skill development
