    • Abstract o KMRC proposed an integrated rapid mass transportation system. o Concern - existing North South metro railway corridor. o Removal of the existing competitive bus services running parallel to the proposed metro routes. o Critics - No gain from the project. o Concessions - project financing. o Fate similar to the North South metro railway corridor project. o KMRC's proposed fares were Higher.
    • Question o In a welfare State, Government is expected to act for the larger benefit of society. Given that the state government will have to acquire land and regulate the competitive mass transportation market along with funding the project with public money, would the state be justified in its role as a sponsor and a facilitator to the EWMC project ?
    • Support Gov o Urban mass transportation sys o Land Acqusation - Project o Project Finance o Electricity – Cost to cost basis o Integrate Eastern & Western parts o Integrate with North-south metro rail corridor o Creating Public Parking facilities o Common ticketing sys - metro corridor & feeder bus services o Low fare structure
    • Against o Removal of houses, commercial structures, shops and slum dwellings o Termination of inter-city bus o Disallowing city buses – run parallel o Removal of competitive choices o Loss of employment o Local Traders & framers- Lose customer & Business
    • Failure – North-South metro corridor o Failed – Attract no. of passengers o Increase in operational cost o High Price sensitive commuters o Availability of cheaper substitutes o Fare structure
    • GOVERNMENT IS EXPECTED.. Did , IT HELP?? - Pollution control (1/5 energy consumption) - Development of society - Facilities - Right direction
