This would allow the courier to have a high resolution touch screen which is good for 2D interaction and information viewing, combined with HMD-based AR view which would be good for navigation and hands free information display.I have also implemented a technique to provide a hybrid three way view of the real and virtual world that makes use of a special property of the Human Visual System.   • 3. mARtSuB : A Mobile AR Tracking System using BRISK Features The recently published BRISK algorithm (Binary Robust Invariant Scalable Keypoints) combines a modified Agast Detector and BRIEF descriptor,making it suitable for real time Mobile AR applications.We have ported BRISK for Android and are using it for registration and computing homography.Currently,we are optimizing and improving our Tracking Algorithm and integrating a 3D Modelling library for Augmentation. Advisor: Prof Mark Billinghurst [Sep’11 to Present ] Tracking System:An alternative approach Some of the most successful AR tracking systems are those based on a combination of structure from motion (SFM) and SLAM approaches, that both model and localize at the same time. Our method, uses model building technology of Bundler to create 3D maps of the environment. These 3D maps are then used for AR localization over a wide area. I worked on implementing our pose estimation algorithm,tracking algorithm and the rendering system that can render both 3D and 2D Augmentations. Advisor: Prof Gerhard Roth, Prof Adrian David Cheok [Feb’10 to Dec’10 ] Training Editor:An AR Authoring System Training Editor is an AR Authoring system which can position objects in a Virtual World relative to a pre-defined Map and map these transformations to a Tracking Sys- tem which displays the object when a map is identified. For this application,we used Lib3DS to load the .3DS model,TinyXML to store & transmit the XML Stream,OpenGL to build the GUI and LibSDL to place the textures on the 3DS Models.The Maps were created offline using Bundler and stored in the PLY format. Advisor: Prof Gerhard Roth, Prof Adrian David Cheok [Dec’10 to Feb’11 ] Kinectynth:Experiencing the Magic of Photosynths with Gestures Photosynth is an improved version of Bundler that analyzes digital photographs and generates a three-dimensional model of the photos and a point cloud of a photographed object.Kinectynth is a Gesture Based Navigation System for the PhotoSynth Point Clouds that allows users to use their hand movements and gestures to rotate, zoom and view the photo structure they made.The Hand gestures are detected by the Kinect and the system is capable of simultaneously tracking 6 Degrees of Freedom of each hand in real time. [Feb’11 to Mar’11 ] P-SCAR:A Presentation System for Classrooms using Augmented Reality In this project,we developed a presentation system for classrooms where teachers could give interactive presentations to students present both within the classroom and those at home .The teacher controls the flow of the presentation through Speech and a Pointing Device which are reflected onto the students application.The Pointing Device is tracked
  • 4. using a Color Tracking Algorithm combined with a robust blur filter for smooth and real time tracking. The Entire Presentation is divided into sessions such as Teaching,Q & A etc and each session consists of interactive media to enhance both the learning and teaching experience. Advisor: Prof.Shekhar Verma [Dec’09 to Mar’10 ] Further details of my projects can be found here AR RelatedFreelance Activities • Developed an Augmented Reality Application using FLARToolkit for a student of Advertising and Multimedia at the University of Kairouan,Tunisia. • Built a Framework to dynamically link AR Markers with Collada Objects using a SQL Database for a student of North Sumatara University,Indonesia. • Collaborated with a Uruguayan Video Producer and Web Artist to showcase his work using AR Markers.Work involved creating a Framework to showcase his videos on AR Markers and provide facility to easily add/delete videos and markers. • Developed a FLARToolkit Application for a student of Universidade Potiguar,Brazil to illustrate the usage of FLARToolkit .The Client had experience of creating AR- Toolkit appplications and wanted a sample application using Actionscript for devel- oping web-based AR applications. • Created a FLARToolkit application for a Smash Magazine personnel to demonstrate the usage of Augmented Reality in giving Interactive Presentations. Worked with an Electronic Music Composer to use raw footage of a Temperate Rain- forest to create the video using Visual FX Software.
