    • A2 MEDIA STUDIESWeek 1: Initial Ideas, Brainstorming, Research, Role Allocations Ana, Raissa, Maheni.
    • FAIRY TALES Little Red Riding HoodSnow White and the Seven Dwarves Hansel and Gretel Puss in Boots CinderellaRapunzel The Sorcerers Apprentice Sleeping Beauty Beauty and the Beast Ana, Raissa, Maheni.
    • OUR TASK To create a short film/trailer/music video. The group decided on creating a short film initially, but then we thought that maybe if that didn’t work out we’d make it a trailer. Finally do we concluded that we’d just make a trailer As a group we came up with a shortlist of out favourite fairy tales that we thought we could adapt and create a trailer/short film. Our list included, Snow White, Hansel and Gretel, The Sorcerers Apprentice andBeauty and the Beast and many more. We realised that Snow White, The SorcerersApprentice and Beauty and the Beast are already movies that have been exploreddifferently by many other producers, and decided that even though we could maybe makeHansel and Gretel a modern movie, keeping it original and remaining within the storiesroutes would be much better. Ana, Raissa, Maheni.
    • T H E S O RC E R E R S A P P R E N T I C E With this story we thought that maybe we wouldmodernise it, and make it based on black magic. Andit would probably be rather comical since it wouldhave a few spells and so on said it funny ways. We initially went for this story but later ondecided that it would be too much trouble to requirecertain equipment. The story as I said, would bemodern, comical, fantasy and perhaps a slight thriller. Ana, Raissa, Maheni.
    • RAPUNZEL With Rapunzel we also wanted it to bemodernised, and rather than Rapunzel having the longlush hair, she’d have a short bob. It’d be different fromother story lines, and perhaps have a deeper meaning to it. We then decided against this story because it had beenmade into many films previously including ‘Tangled’ and‘Shrek the Third’ and ‘Barbie as Rapunzel’. With ‘Tangled’ since it was recent, we thought it bestnot to do another film/trailer with the original yet modernstoryline. Ana, Raissa, Maheni.
    • HANSEL & GRETEL We decided that we would do Hansel andGretel. A story that has rarely been promoted. Many people didn’t know the actual storyand so with a film/trailer it can give them anidea of it, which is also why we decided tokeep it completely original and keep itwithin the 1900’s kind of time frame. Ana, Raissa, Maheni.
    • HANSEL & GRETEL: T H E S T O RY Hansel and Gretel were brother and sister. Their poor parents were starving, so they went out in search of food. They took one slice of bread along, which they used to mark a path back to their home by leaving crumbs along the way. After a while, they came upon a little house made of gingerbread. Hansel broke off a piece to eat. Suddenly, the door flew open and an old woman came out and invited them in. She fed them mountains of pancakes and fruit, and then tucked them into bed to sleep. What Hansel and Greteldidnt realize was that the old woman was fattening them up so she could use them in her favourite dish; roasted children! Now they were prisoners, and the old woman kept feeding them, and when she asked them to stick their fingers out of their cell so she could judge how fat they were getting, Hansel held out a bone instead. Finally, the children escaped and pushed the old woman into the oven. They filled their pockets with jewels and food and used the trail of bread crumbs to find their way back home, where they lived happily ever after.
    • ROLE ALLOCATIONThere are three roles available for this production: Director Producer EditorMy group decided that it would be easier to assign ourselves a role that we thoughtwe were good at. I remained as an Editor since it has to do with selecting andpreparing written, visual, audible, and film media and then deciding what to keep, what to remove, and how to organise it all perfectly.
    • F U RT H E R U N D E R S TA N D I N G : P RO D U C E R - A N A Chris Wyck Richard D Zanuck A Producer creates like a contract that allows theDirector to create the screenplay. They oversee theprocess, and make sure things turn out as they should. They coordinate, supervise and control all the majoraspects of the project. They find how the screenplayshould be financed by making fundraisers and theyalso do the hiring and firing. The producer is often actively involvedthroughout all major phases of the filmmakingprocess, from the inauguration and development to Roy Conlicompletion and delivery of a film project.
    • F U RT H E R U N D E R S TA N D I N G : DIRECTOR - MAHENI The Directors control the artistic and dramaticaspects of the film/trailer, and also manage to guidethe technical crew and actors. Directors are responsible for deciding cameraangles, lens effects and lighting with the help of the Steven Spielberg Catherine Hardwickecinematographer and set designer. They coordinate the actors moves and may beinvolved in how the actor/actress should behave onthe set, writing, financing and editing of a film. Some well known Directors are: StevenSpielberg, Tim Burton, Catherine Hardwick and Chris Chris Weitz Tim BurtonWeitz.
    • F U RT H E R U N D E R S TA N D I N G : EDITOR - RAISSA An Editor is a person who is in chargeof and determines the final content of ascreen play. Editors make a selection and Nancy Richardson Chris Lebenzonarrangement of individual shots in order toconstruct the flowing sequence of imagesfor a film/trailer/music video. They make the final call as to whatshould and shouldn’t be seen on the screen. Andrew Weisblum Tariq Anwar
    • TARGET AUDIENCE Movies like ‘Snow White and the Huntsman’ (which was directed by Rupert Sanders) are rated at 12A. According to the British Board of Film Foundation, 12A category meansthat the trailer/movie is for ages 12 and over, however, the ‘A’ stands forAdvisory/Accompanied. This means that someone younger than 12 is allowed towatch the movie with a parental guardian, and they should hold full responsibility ifthe child becomes scared of certain events that happen throughout. I think this trailer/movie would be appropriate for this certificate because like ‘Snow White and theHuntsman’, and ‘Red Riding Hood’ they’re original fairy tales with a slight twist. Also, our adaptation of‘Hansel and Gretel’ won’t be too gruesome and won’t be something that parents will worry about their kidswatches.
