Our business thesis is predicated on the idea that our farm customers will enjoy better financial returns using our seeds. Therefore, this goal is absolutely core for our customers’ success and ultimately our business’s success. If we can help farmers produce more (higher yields) and conserve more (more efficient use of water, nitrogen, etc…), we believe farmers will also earn more income from farming. Those income gains can have a huge impact on the quality of life for their families and communities.Twelve million farmers have already benefited greatly from biotech crops, 90% of whom are farming in developing countries. A report issued by PG Economics (Brookes & Barfoot) found that farmers have earned an extra $34 billion in net farm income through the use of biotech crops since 1996. To put this amount into perspective, the net farm income from biotech crops since 1996 is greater than the entire annual gross domestic product (GDP - all economic activity) of the country of Kenya.Today, 1.5 billion people are members of small farm families around the world. Agriculture is still the world’s largest employment sector. Successful efforts to increase the productivity of small farmers can positively affect millions of people who are among the world’s poor and hungry.
