• This listening introduces the 2 nd question/answer that we want to learn this lesson. Tienes hermanos o hermanas and the response. If time is short, I would recommend leaving this listening to a different lesson and going straight to slide 7 & 8 so that students get the opportunity to practise the question/answer.
• The conditions or ‘targets’ can be many and varied. It ALMOST doesn’t matter as the point of putting a condition there is to cause students to think their sentences through carefully as they build them. It makes them much more aware of what they’re saying. And making a sentence of exactly 8 words will involve usually a very short clause with ‘weil’ or two clauses linked with ‘und’ or additional details like when and where. So they focus on different ways to make their sentences longer. It also works well to set >9 words or <5 words at times too.
• Try to actually let them go on for as long as they can- some in my class managed 12 minutes of discussion in German and were really pleased with themselves. This is a good one for building confidence as they are not restricted- they can say what they can and want to.
• Give a print out and see if students can colour it correctly
• Look at the flag in detail and answer these questions

18. 18. 1. Say a category in TL and give students seconds (no longer!) to draw something e.g. ‘un animal’ 2. Do this 4 times with different categories 3. They tear their scrap paper into the 4 pieces (or ‘flashcards’ 4. They spend 2 minutes teaching each other their 4 words. 5. They spend 1 minute giving an opinion of each other’s drawings. E.g. J’aime ton éléphant – c’est chouette! 6. They the ask each other if they have one of each thing and respond e.g. Tu as un élephant? 7. Finally they have to incorporate the item into a longer sentence, using for example a different time frame or reason, as appropriate to the stage of learning of the class. Gracias a Steven Fawkes 6
