  • 2. Objects and Symbols<br />The Torah is an object that<br />you read from. It contains<br />the Jewish holy writings.<br />Youread it weekly, when<br />you have holidays and<br />when you turn thirteen.<br />The Star of David is a<br />Symbol of a Jewish identity. The symbol<br />has had positive and negative uses.<br />The Nazis made the Jews wear them to<br />easily be identified.<br />Star of David<br />The Menorah is a Symbol of the holiday Hanukkah, it is a celebration of yet another time we defeated our enemies<br />Menorah<br />Torah<br />
  • 3. Core Beliefs<br /> Judaism does not have any official beliefs that must be accepted in order to be Jewish. Judaism is mostly about the well being of humanity.   • 4. Celebrations & Holidays <br />There are many different holidays and celebrations in Judaism but I’m only going to name three.<br />One celebration is a Bar or Bat Mitzvah. That is when you become a man or a women in the Jewish community.<br /> One holiday is Hanukkah. That Is where you celebrate it for 8 days and get presents every night!<br />One more holiday is Yom Kippur. Yom Kippur is when you attone for your sins and fast for a whole day..<br />
  • 5. Rituals and Rites of Passage<br />One rite of passage is a Bar or Bat Mitzvah when you officially become a man or a women.<br />A rite of passage is a ritual event that marks a person's progress from one status to another.<br />
  • 6. Holy Places & Places of Worship<br />A holy place to worship is a Temple, also know as a Synagogue.<br />A very Holy place is the west wall because it is the last remains of the temple.<br />
  • 7. Stories of Origin (Unifying Stories) & Important People<br />A story of origin for<br />Jewish people is when<br />God called down to <br />Abraham( also <br />Important person) and<br />gave him an offer to<br />Give him a great<br />nation but<br />only if he left his<br />family. This is called the covenant.<br />
  • 8. Holy Writings<br />The holy writing for Jewish people is the Torah. Every week you read a portion of it and every year you finish it and start again.<br />
