  • 2. Unifying Story
    • A unifying story for Jews is the Exodus. In it, Moses leads the Jewish people out of Egypt and into Israel. Also, God talks to Abraham and tells him to sacrifice his son, then stops him just before he does.

  • 3. Holy Writings and Core Beliefs
    • The Jewish Holy writing is the Torah. It consists of the 5 books of Moses.
    • The Jewish people follow the 613 mitzvots. Mitzvots are commandments.

    • There are a few Jewish symbols. Some are: Tallit, Tefillin, Mezuzah, Kippah, Shofar, and the Star of David.

    • One place of worship is a synagogue.
    • Another holy place is the western wall in Jerusalem.

  • 6. Rituals and Ceremonies
    • The first ceremony in a Jew’s life is circumcision. Then comes bar or bat mitzvah, then marriage, and finally death.

    • Rites of passage are the steps in life that come with new responsibilities. They also come with a ceremony.
    • Some rites of passage are getting a drivers license, graduating from college and turning 21 and growing a beard.

  • 8. Holidays & Celebrations
    • Some important Jewish holidays are Rosh Hashanah, Passover, Yom Kippur and Purim.

  • 9. History & Current Events
    • The main current event in Judaism is the Palestinian and Jewish war over who owns Israel. An important historic event for Jews was when they escaped from Hitler and when the Romans destroyed their original synagogue.
