What is Project Vietnam ? <ul><li>Initially International Health Project of the American Academy of Pediatrics CA 4 </li></ul><ul><li>2 medical mission trips/year since 1996 </li></ul><ul><li>Assistance to needy children and families in poor rural areas </li></ul><ul><li>Training for healthcare personnel </li></ul><ul><li>Long term projects: maternal/child health, anemia reduction, vitamin K pilot program </li></ul><ul><li>National Newborn Care Initiative </li></ul>

MEDICAL MISSION 2003 <ul><li>156 volunteers from 5 countries </li></ul><ul><li>National seminar at school of Medicine, HochiMinh city </li></ul><ul><li>on disaster medicine </li></ul><ul><li>Conferences on Pediatric Surgery & Neonatology, National Hospital of Pediatrics </li></ul><ul><li>Training in provinces of Thai Nguyen, Thanh Hoa and Ha Nam </li></ul><ul><li>In Ha Nam province: </li></ul><ul><ul><li>98 surgeries for cleft lip/palate, eye & ear nose throat problems </li></ul></ul><ul><ul><li>2,275 patients treated at rural clinics (medical, dental and optometric services) </li></ul></ul><ul><ul><li>2 rural schools visited with medical exams to the children and 1,100 gifts of backpack & school supplies </li></ul></ul>
