  • 1. Objectives:
    • To further analyse ‘At a Potato Digging
    • To explore links with other poems
    • To introduce our final poem…
  • 2. The AOs:
    • Critical, sensitive response to the poems using textual evidence
    • Explore how language, structure and forms contribute to meaning
    • Consider different approaches and interpretations
    • Explore and evaluate relationships and comparisons within and between the poems
  • 3. Re-cap: What are the basics of ‘Song of the Old Mother’?
  • 4. Essay writing:
    • Read the question carefully and underline key words
    • Plan under the key headings (look at your blank planning frame)
    • Write the essay!
    • Check your work
    • REMEMBER – AT LEAST ONE POEM YOU DISCUSS MUST BE PRE-1914!
  • 5. Question: Compare how death is presented in ‘On My First Sonne’ by Ben Johnson and one other poem. Then compare how death is presented in one poem by Seamus Heaney and one poem by Gillian Clarke. PLANNNING GRID + 2 PARAGRAPHS
