How did you attract/address your audience?
Well we to decide on how we attracted our audience we will need to look back at many of our choices , firstly the storyline we decided to use this storyline as we thought it would be appropriate to out target audience, we decided that most of the people who would come and watch our film would do it for, Escapism and Integration and Social Interaction (Blumler and Kats Uses and Gratification theory) so we wanted a gripping storyline but something which was down to earth and something the target audience could relate with. We also wanted to create a calm atmosphere or equilibrium in our opening scenes this is why we used some of the props we did, mainly the plant in the background as we thought that if we included some natural it would give the film a neutral start and would relax the audience, but we wanted this calm to be juxtapositioned with this sudden problem or breaking of the equilibrium to keep the audience on the edge of their seat and I think we done this through the heartbeat and blood on the hands .
Costume: We wanted to make a suttle yet definitive statement with our choice of costume firstly the dark colours to represent upcoming danger and death which are central theme throughout our film we also wanted to distinguish between the two character and this is why the psychiatrist is wearing brighter colours, this also follows on from the idea we had about juxtaposing the calm and relaxing pink with the deathly dark colours. We also had to show that the psychiatrist was a professional this is why we included the leaflet carrier and the clipboard as it made her more professional, it also made her look older to the audience something we really wanted to get across, we also tried to do this by making her wear glasses which are also an international symbol for intelligence.
Audience Feedback We decided to use the social networking website Facebook to get comments from our audience : as it is a quick and easy and reliable way of getting constructive feedback on our product.
Audience Feedback I firstly made it clear to everyone that the video had : “Very bad technical problems with audio, but we would like for you to comment on : Quality of shots, whether you can tell the genre of the film?, which part you like the best and why?,things (except the obvious errors in audio and transitions) that we could improve on. Thank You” We did get quite a mixed reception when we did post this on the social networking website, with most people obviously citing the obvious sound errors – which we could not do anything about. We got a very good responses in terms that most people decided that it was a thriller and many people also saying the sub genre as well “psychological thriller”. They also had very good things to say about the ending of our film especially something we had been quite worried about , they said they liked the blurring of the scene as it made clear that the scene was in the mind of the character. They also enjoyed the non – diagetic sound of the heartbeat in the back ground as it “adds tension”.
My Evaluation Well in my opinion our final product was not up to par even though I feel we have got some very good moments in our film, I was very let down by the editing software I feel and this caused major damage to our final product as every single person who watched it cited the obvious gross sound errors. The feedback we did get was very helpful as it had very constructive criticism, and apart from the gross errors I felt that the audience enjoyed most of our film especially the ending as it left them on a cliff hanger. There are obviously thing I would love to change if I could do this again , but I do feel based on the evidence we have certainly in some form attracted our audience.
