    • Pre-Arrival Information 5 Week Presessional English Course - 2010 ENROLMENT DETAILS FOR INTERNATIONAL (NON-EUROPEAN) STUDENTS Welcome to Birmingham City University! We are very pleased that you are joining our 5 week Presessional English course. The following information is provided to ensure that your start at Birmingham City University goes as smoothly as possible. Meet & Greet Student Services will be available at Birmingham International Airport on the weekend before your course starts. Staff will be available between 9am and 10pm to answer any questions you may have and to help you get a taxi, train or bus to your accommodation. The team will be available from Friday 6th August to Sunday 8th August. To let us know that you will be arriving at the airport please complete the online registration form (available from the 7th June) at: www.bcu.ac.uk/prearrival no later than Friday 30th July 2010. A taxi to Birmingham City University costs between £22 and £32. You will need to pay the taxi driver in sterling cash. Pre-arrival information The pre-arrival website, www.bcu.ac.uk/prearrival contains lots of useful information about what to do before and when you get to the UK and the University. We would strongly recommend that you have a look at the information and register to let us know when you will be arriving. The pre-arrival website will be available from the 7th June 2010. Accommodation Accommodation is provided at a charge to all unaccompanied students for the 5 week duration of the Presessional English course. Accommodation will be allocated on arrival therefore you do not have to pre-book.
    • If you are not using the Meet and Greet Service, when you arrive at the City North Campus, Perry Barr please report to the Accommodation Office at Oscott Gardens, where you will be allocated a room and given the room key. (Attached is map of the City North Campus, Perry Barr for your information). At the end of your Presessional course, we would like to remind you of the arrangements regarding accommodation:  If you have already accepted an offer of University accommodation you will be able to move from your current room to your permanent room on the date of your room offer letter.  If you have received an offer for university accommodation but have not yet responded, please do so immediately. Your acceptance must be returned to Howes Building, Perry Barr no later than the deadline date on your offer letter. After that date the offer will be withdrawn.  If you wish to look for privately rented accommodation, you can obtain a copy of the Private Sector List from the Accommodation Manager’s Office at Oscott Gardens or via our website www.bcu.ac.uk/accommodation . Finally please ensure that your Presessional room and communal areas such as bathroom, kitchen and hallways are left in a clean and tidy condition when you leave and the keys are handed in at Oscott Gardens prior to your departure. Welcome Address & Enrolment You should join the Presessional English course on Monday 9th August 2010 at 09.30 in Kenrick Lecture Theatre. This will be your first opportunity to meet the course team and the other students you will be studying with. Immediately after the Welcome Address you will need to enrol as a student on the Presessional English course. It is very important to fully enrol as a Birmingham City University Student. If you do not enrol and obtain a student identity card you will not have access to many of the University’s services and facilities.
    • PLEASE ENSURE THAT YOU BRING THE FOLLOWING DOCUMENTS WITH YOU IN ORDER TO ENROL:  Unconditional offer letter or CAS Information Sheet  Current Valid Passport which includes correct sponsor licence number XC799QAW5  Original certificates for all qualifications listed on your application form, where a document is not in English the original must be accompanied by a fully certified translation by a professional translator. The translation must include details of the translator’s credentials and confirmation that it is an accurate translation of the original document; and the translator’s contact details. It must also be dated and include the original signature of the translator.  A minimum of 50% of your tuition fee or sponsor letter  Receipts or payment details for any deposit payments you have already submitted to the University  payment of £600 (sterling) Presessional fee (excluding accommodation fee) or  payment of £950 (sterling) Presessional fee (including accommodation fee)  Payment for the balance of your main course fee (see your visa letter for amount to be paid) Police Registration If your student visa indicates that you are required to register with the Police you will be given details of the date and time when you need to attend Overseas Visitors Registration Office (OVRO) at Lloyd House Police Station during enrolment. Enrolment for Students who arrive late If you arrive after Monday 9th August 2010 please report to the International Office Please be aware that you must arrive by 18 August 2010. If you arrive after this date you WILL NOT be accepted onto the course. We look forward to welcoming you to the University very soon.
