  1. 1. ENVIRONMENTAL EDUCATION IN SECONDARY AND HIGH SCHOOL IN BAC LIEU PROVINCE PRESENTER: TRINH PHU QUANG BAC LIEU DEPARTMENT OF EDUCATION
  2. 2. 1. The practical status of environment education of Bac Lieu Province + EE is taught at schools by the integration of literature, geography, civic education, physics, chemistry, biology, IT…and EE integration is also integrated in extra curricula classes.
  3. 3. 1. The practical status of environment education of Bac Lieu Province + Advantage  MoET implement EE integration into national education system. In recent years, MoET has established plans for environmental protection.  For teachers of literature, geography, civic education, physics…EE integration is instructed in teaching.
  4. 4.  Educational sector is implementing the campaign “ To build friendly schools, active students” and maintain a green- clean- beautiful environment. It also trains students ‘ life skills. + Difficulties  To implement EE integration method in subjects at different levels is still limited due to shortage of capacity and interest.  time allocated for EE integration: is not sufficient for EE integration.
  5. 5.  EE document is not sufficient, particularly local EE documents.  Teaching aids and equipments are not sufficient and do not meet with learning demands.  EE extra classes lack of budget. Teachers and educational staff do not have enough good interest in EE.
  6. 6. + Challenges  When climate change happens, Bac Lieu is one of the provinces affected seriously.  Bac Lieu is a coastal province with coastal forests but it lacks concerned documents.  EE integration at schools in Bac Lieu Province become important because students can have a good impact on their local communities.
  7. 7. 2. EE component supported and funded by GIZ Bac Lieu Project + Teacher working groups established for experiences exchange. This activity supports teachers to implement EE integration. + Train local teachers to become TWGs facilitators + TWGs facilitators organize monthly meetings for EE integration.
  8. 8. + Establish and train monitors + Participate to develop Bac Lieu EE manuals for the three subjects: biology, geography and civic education in secondary and high schools.  First success + Meet with the demand of EE integration for the three subjects in secondary and high school. + Provide knowledge of Bac Lieu environment for teachers and students. + teachers of literature, physics, chemistry…in secondary and high school, primary teachers use Bac Lieu EE manuals for reference.
  9. 9.  Deploy and implement extra curricula activities + Yearly environmental drawings at schools, districts, city and region level. Each year has its own topic. Students send their drawings for the competition. + The nursery garden competition: with the participation of many schools, building nursery gardens to take care of seedlings which will be evaluated for praising. Seedlings will be planed in the Tree Planting Event. + Organize excursions for secondary and high schools. A variety of games, shows and competitions are organized in the Bird Sanctuary for EE.
