    • Type of vaccine: Live attenuated vaccine Composition: Trivalent (TOPV) containing all the three strains POLIO VIRUS (Type: 1,2,3) Type- 1 > 106 CCID50 Type- 2 > 105 CCID50 Type -3 > 105.8 CCID50 PRESERVATIVE: Neomycin- 15mcg Kanamycin- 15mcg STABILIZED with: Mgcl3
    • STORAGE: at 40c DOSAGE: 2 drops = 0.1ml ROUTE OF ADMINISTRATION: oral SCHEDULE: 0 dose (at birth) 6wks – 10wks – 14wks Booster dose at- 16-24month EFFICACY & PROTECTION RATE: 90-95% for life long.
    • CONTRINDICATIONS: acute infectious disease. Fever. Diarrhoea & dysentery. Leukemia. Malignancy. those receiving steroids. COMPLICATIONS: Vaccine associated paralytic polio (type:3)

VVM stage – 4 Constituents : attenuated polio virus(sabin) Type- 1 > 106 CCID50 Type- 2 > 105 CCID50 Type -3 > 105.8 CCID50 PRESERVATIVE: Neomycin- 15mcg Kanamycin- 15mcg STABILIZED with: Mgcl3 Stored at 4 o c Dose: 2drops (0.1ml) orally at birth (0 dose) and 6wks – 10wks – 14wks & booster at 16-24month. Efficacy & Protection rate: 90-95% for life long Contraindication: acute illness, diarrhoea, leukemia & those on steroid. Public health importance: used for active immunization against polio
    • POLIO VACCINE INACTIVATED (Salk) POLIO VACCINE IPV ORAL (Sabin) POLIO VACCINE OPV 1. 2. 3. 4. 5. 6. Killed vaccine Given s.c or i.m Provides only systemic immunity. Prevents only paralysis (CNS invasion). Not useful in controlling epidemics. Dosing: 4 doses. Live vaccine Given orally Both systemic and local immunity. Prevents both paralysis and intestinal re-infection. Useful in controlling epidemic. Dosing: 0 – 6 – 10 - 14 wks – 16 to 24month total 5 doses.
