    • Intentional Impact: Culturally Sensitive Parent and Family EngagementThis workshop addresses the Youth Development principles adopted by partners of Redwood City2020’s CYDI. These principles are intended for youth program staff to adopt and implement theframework and practices into their youth-serving organizations.In this session, we will: Understand the purpose of engaging parents and families so that attendees will become aware of the cultural misconceptions about caring and how adults approach engagement Learn about cultural biases as well as the diversity and reality of families – through interactive activities – to understand where we come from so we can best approach families Practice successful approaches to engaging parents and families through discussion and individual activities so that we can continue to build successful relationships and draw upon strengths and resiliency to support our youthFor this workshop, we are drawing upon the resources of our own Professional Development Team,led by Sarah Kremer from Friends for Youth, Candice Newnes from StarVista, John Yap fromPCRC, and Lina Mira from Upward Bound at Canada College.This Team supports setting the standards of, providing trainings about, and promoting Youth Development practices in our community, through the Community Youth Development Initiative (CYDI) and Prevention Partnership (PP).
