  • As with any disease, scab infection is dependent on the so-called “disease triangle” – pathogen presence, host plants and favorable conditions – all of which must be present for an outbreak. Because the Fusarium pathogen survives on residue of small grains and corn, it is typically the cropping environment that determines the severity of disease outbreaks. The best conditions for wheat growth and yield potential are also ripe for disease development – that is, warm, humid weather. Apply Prosaro during these conditions to reduce the risk of infection and protect the yield and quality potential that already exists in your crop. Prosaro is rainfast within two hours of application or until fully dry on the leaf surface.

  • 1. Prosaro® Fungicide Growing with Prosaro. It‘s like growing money.
  • 2. Overview Grow more profit in your fields. Get the most out of your wheat and barley acres with Prosaro® fungicide. It offers powerful activity on leaf and head diseases and is proven to increase yield and quality, under all types of conditions. Prosaro fungicide:  Powerful leaf and head disease control  Increased grain quality  Higher yield  Application recommendations Bayer (reg’d) and the Bayer Cross (reg’d) are trademarks of Bayer. • 3. Powerful Disease Control  When applied at the appropriate timing, Prosaro offers:  Powerful activity on both leaf and head diseases  Preventive and curative action against leaf diseases  Strong performance in spring and winter wheat as well as barley  Prosaro is the standard for preventive treatment of scab (Fusarium head blight or FHB), with outstanding foliar disease control.  Reduces scab  Suppresses DON levels Bayer (reg’d) and the Bayer Cross (reg’d) are trademarks of Bayer. Additional trademarks and/or logos used in this presentation are the trademarks of Bayer or the respective brand owner. Always read and follow label instructions. • 4. Powerful Disease Control  Prosaro stops the penetration of the pathogen into the plant and stops the spread of infection within the plant. As a result, Prosaro inhibits the reproduction and further growth of fungus.  Prosaro stops existing fungal development and protects against new infections on the treated plant tissue. It does this without increasing mycotoxin production in grain. Bayer (reg’d) and the Bayer Cross (reg’d) are trademarks of Bayer. • 5. Powerful Disease Control Most major leaf and head diseases are well controlled by timely applications of Prosaro. WHEAT DISEASES BARLEY DISEASES • Fusarium head blight (scab) • Leaf, stem and stripe rusts • Septoria leaf spot • Glume blotch • Tan spot • Powdery mildew • Fusarium head blight (scab) – suppression • Net blotch • Powdery mildew • Rusts • Spot blotch Bayer (reg’d) and the Bayer Cross (reg’d) are trademarks of Bayer. Additional trademarks and/or logos used in this presentation are the trademarks of Bayer or the respective brand owner. Always read and follow label instructions. • 6. Increased Grain Quality The Presence of DON  DON, also referred to as vomitoxin, is a mycotoxin that is sometimes produced in wheat and barley grain infected by scab.  Scab is most prevalent when wet weather occurs during the flowering and grain-filling stages of plant development. The occurrence of scab does not automatically mean that DON will be present, but it does increase the odds dramatically. Bayer (reg’d) and the Bayer Cross (reg’d) are trademarks of Bayer. • 7. Increased Grain Quality The Effect of Strobilurins  Strobilurins applied after flag leaf emergence may increase DON levels, whereas Prosaro brings DON levels down.  ―Fungicides that contain an active ingredient in the ‗strobilurin‘ class should NEVER be applied to control FHB. This includes products like Headline®, Quadris®, Quilt® and Stratego®. Research has shown that strobilurin fungicides can actually increase DON levels in harvested grain. These strobilurin products are very good at controlling foliar diseases of wheat, and if used, should be applied earlier in the season (around Feeke‘s 8—flag leaf emergence).‖ Dr. Carl Bradley, Assistant Professor of Plant Pathology/Extension Specialist University of Illinois - Department of Crop Sciences Spring 2009, in ―Illinois Wheat News‖ on Illinois Wheat Association website: www.illinoiswheat.org Bayer (reg’d) and the Bayer Cross (reg’d) are trademarks of Bayer. • 8. Increased Grain Quality Regulating DON Wheat  Recent regulatory changes from the Chicago Board of Trade lowered the acceptable level of DON without price discounts from 3 ppm to 2 ppm. These changes mean that even trace amounts of DON in your fields can have significant impact on the grains‘ marketability. Barley  Tight malt restrictions mean even trace amounts of DON in your fields can have significant impact on barley grains‘ marketability. • 9. Increased Grain Quality FDA advisory levels for DON  1 ppm  5 ppm  5 ppm 10 ppm Finished wheat products, such as flour, bran and germ, that potentially may be consumed by humans. Grains and grain byproducts destined for swine, providing that these ingredients do not exceed 20% of the diet. Grains and grain byproducts destined for all other animals, providing that these ingredients do not exceed 40% of the diet Grains and grain byproducts destined for ruminating beef and feedlot cattle older than 4 months and for poultry, providing that these ingredients do not exceed 50% of the diet. • 26. Application Recommendations  Why adjust the spray tips?  Dye studies were conducted at the NDSU Langdon Research Extension Center (S. Haley, G. Van Ee, et al.) and SDSU (B. Ruden).  Forward-facing nozzles were compared with vertical-oriented nozzles.  Approximately 2X amounts of dye were collected on the heads treated with forward-facing nozzles.  Prosaro needs to be on the heads to prevent scab infections.  Control of leaf diseases is not compromised.
