Alzheimer’s disease is a serious condition that is irreversible and progressive and is one of the most common causes of Dementia in the elderly.Dementia refers to the loss of cognitive functioning. This includes reasoning, thinking and remembering, but it also includes behavioral abilities.

These symptoms often appear in the elderly
after the age of 60.
Over time, brain cells degenerate and die,
thus causing a deterioration in mental
function and memory.
There currently is medication for
management of this disease that could
possibly and temporarily improve symptoms,
however there is no cure for Alzheimer’s
disease.
It is important to bring awareness to this
disease and one such program that is doing
that is Hilarity for Charity (HFC).
HFC is a movment that was established by
comedian Seth Rogen. He uses an
uncoventional approach by having celebrities
perform music and comedy at special events
to help inspire change and raise money for
those struggling with Alzheimer’s care,
funding research and increasing support

Furthermore, HFC has started a nationwide program that encourages and supports college groups to plan their own
Hilarity for Charity events to raise awareness and funds in order to fight this disease.
By inspiring college students and people everywhere, HFC has broadened their scope at bringing awareness to such
a devestating disease and raising money for those in need.
At the Senate Appropriations Subcommittee on Labor, Health and Human Services, Seth Rogen stated it best:
“Americans whisper the word Alzheimer’s because their government whispers the word
Alzheimer’s. And although a whisper is better than the silence that the Alzheimer’s community
has been facing for decades, it’s still not enough. It needs to be yelled and screamed to the point
that it finally gets the attention and the funding that it deserves and needs.”
