Hybrid Funds May Be A Good Bet For Risk-averse Investors

  1. 1. TH E TIM ES O F IN D IA ePA PER 13WWW.ECONOMICTIMES.COM Markets & Finance Global concerns led to some correction in the global markets on Friday. Nifty futures also showed a profit- booking session. It showed strong consolidation around the 7510-7550 range, taking strong support around the 7500 mark where its maximum put options open interest is concentrated and yesterday it took a sharp turn during the latter half of the day, finally breaking the consolidation zone to close with a smart gain of around 1.35%. Buying participation was seen across the board, mainly led by strong pullback in the banking stocks. ONGC has been trading firmly, making a higher top- higher bottom formation with a significant rise in OI, indicating strength in the stock. Reliance Capital has given a fresh breakout, can retest its recent high of 670 levels. CESC, Canara Bank and Tata Motors also look strong at current levels and can see 6-8% gains. On the options front, the put-call ratio open interest of the Nifty has been consolidating strongly below the one psychological mark, but has showed a consistent rise from 0.67 to 0.89 levels since the inception of the series, indicating strength in the market. Considerable put writing is seen at 7500 and 7600 strike prices, indicat- ing writers anticipating market to continue to move forward and pocket the premium. The consolidation breakout on the upside has strong significance for the market to resume its uptrend, where on the upside, sustaining above 7700 levels will lead to a fresh buying participation in the market to- wards 7800-7850 levels, above which even 8000 levels can be possible. Currently, 7700 strike price holds the maximum call option open interest concentration, followed at 8000 strike price, also suggesting breakout above 7700 level will bring momentum in the market. On the downside, 7500 levels would continue to hold as an important support for the market, where the maxi- mum put writers are located. In case of a three-year scheme, approximately 80% of the money is invested in bonds, which ensure return of capi- tal invested at the end of the tenure. The balance is invested in equity. These schemes aim at offering dou- ble-digit returns. The one-year re- turns of similar schemes look good, given the recent rally in the equity markets. Three-year schemes launched in 2011, which will be ma- turing in 2014, are performing well.
