GLOBALISATION AND GAME THEORY vs. MAN’S AUTHENTIC SPIRITUAL
SELF PROBAL MOJUMDER
At the core of human existence man has severed his connection with his true self. Today
man can see everything, other than who he is and what he wants. His wants and
preferences are dominated with what he is made to like. The fast moving 21st century has
deepened the fissure. It has made man thought less fools moving in directions he is made
to move. Life rolls in circular paths where he finds himself at the beginning of the road at
regular intervals. This vicious circle can be analyzed diligently using economic concepts
of ‘globalization’ and ‘game theory’…
Before pondering into the relevance of these concepts, let’s sneak a look into the core of
economics. The discipline of economics deals with a self interested man who aims to
maximize his own subjective satisfaction subject to optimal utilization of the resources at
his disposal using the most rational approach. The satisfaction economics concern is
highly materialistic and non spiritual … Anyways let’s look back into our topic of
discussion.
Globalization is a household term in the 21st century. It refers to the intrinsic change in
the society due to sudden advancement in technology, especially transport and
communication. The development of information technology, through computers,
internet and wireless communication, has knit the world into a global village. Today each
and every bit of information that belongs to the knowledge of mankind can be accessed at
the press of a button. Man can travel across the globe within hours. Thus his desire can
cover a broader spectrum. For instance an individual in India can wish to posses a house
in Tahiti islands in Pacific Ocean which his ancestors could not even dream of.
On the other hand, game theory deals with the psychology of an economic individual in
the social context. Here the self interested man aims to maximize his satisfaction via
proper choice from the options at his disposal, subject to the decision of his peers which
he might not be knowing. Here the individual unit can not consider the choice that it
intrinsically wants but its choice depends on decision of his competitor. Thus we see an
individual’s authenticity to its self is lossed and his expression is simply an extrapolation
of his peer’s expression which he pre assumes and aims to over do.
Merging these two concepts we unearth the truth that in this vast ocean of options lying
ahead of man (because of the boon of globalization) he has lossed his individualism in
order to keep himself at par with the worldly norms which he observes at a faster
frequency in the 21st century than ever before. Today he constantly plays this illusionary
‘game’ (at a faster pace) ultimately running far away from his genuine self. Thus the
boon of globalization has become a curse as it’s constantly diluting the regional
authenticity and making it flow towards the dominant forces in society. Man’s creativity
and spontaneity is becoming increasingly monotonous as he detaches himself from
‘himself’.
We hope that beyond the forces of economics the self interested and so called rational
man will look deep within himself to search the satisfaction that is purely spiritual which
will help him to be a better human being and pay proper tribute to the mind, intellect and
spirit embedded within him by almighty God.
