What is a Browser ?

You have a computer

The Computer has an Operating System on it. These are: - Windows (Microsoft) - Linux (Open Source) - Mac (Apple)

The Operating System basically acts as a translator between YOU and the COMPUTER

With an Operating System (OS) you can....
Upload data
Watch Movies
Listen to Music
Make files (presentations, documents, spreadsheets etc.. )
Print stuff
And any other OFFLINE tasks...

Connecting to the Internet...

Now the computer can understand YOU BUT It needs to understand the Internet!

....in comes the WEB BROWSER!!

Some web browsers: -Internet Explorer -Mozilla Firefox -Opera -Safari -Google Chrome

The web browser gets the information YOU need from the internet.

Wanna go to Google Search ?

Type www.google.com in your browser bar and it will retrieve the Google page and display it on your computer for you to see!

So a browser is necessary to surf the internet! It has been made primarily for that purpose!
