Ajax tutorial

  1. 1. AJAX JavaScript on Steriods Mr. Pritesh Patel MCA, ISTAR
  2. 2. Introduction • If you wanted to get any information from a database on the server, or send user information to a server-side script like ASP, PHP, you had to make an HTML form to GET or POST data to the server. • The user would then have to click "Submit", wait for the server to respond, then a new page would load with the results. • And wait long time for result.
  3. 3. Introduction (Cont…) • Ajax attempts to remedy this problem by letting your Javascript communicate directly with the server, using a special Javascript object XMLHttpRequest. • With this object, your Javascript can get information from the server without having to load a new page!
  4. 4. AJAX • AJAX, shorthand for Asynchronous JavaScript and XML, is a web development technique for creating interactive web applications. • AJAX meant to increase the web page's interactivity, speed, and usability. • Ajax uses XHTML for content and CSS for presentation, as well as the Document Object Model and JavaScript for dynamic content display.
  5. 5. Technologies Used in AJAX JavaScript • Loosely typed scripting language • JavaScript function is called when an event in a page occurs • Glue for the whole AJAX operation DOM • API for accessing and manipulating structured documents • Represents the structure of XML and HTML documents CSS • Allows for a clear separation of the presentation style from the content and may be changed programmatically by JavaScript XMLHttpRequest • JavaScript object that performs asynchronous interaction with the server
