  3. 3. PUMC Goal Areas <ul><li>The following five goal areas and subtending goals were developed by the Church Council between January and March of 2009. All Church Council members were invited to provide input to the prioritization process. These results were reviewed and agreed to at the Church Council/Committee Planning Retreat held on Saturday, March 28. </li></ul><ul><li>In addition to the goals, all input received during the goal review and prioritization process is included. </li></ul>PUMC 2009/2010 Planning Process 04/30/2009

PUMC 2009/2010 Planning Process 04/30/2009 <ul><li>Additional ideas from 1/5/09 brainstorm or survey input (# = votes if applicable): </li></ul><ul><li>Try to get enough small groups established so that all congregants who will/wish to participate have a small group to attend; encourage and enable participation of the congregation in small group ministries (7) </li></ul><ul><li>Support needs of the elderly / See that elderly members feel involved (5) </li></ul><ul><li>Offer more opportunities for spiritual growth (3) </li></ul><ul><li>Support and develop a program of Stephen Ministry (3) </li></ul><ul><li>Linking into larger United Methodist Church </li></ul><ul><li>Doing things together with lots of opportunities for service, fun and fellowship will make a livelier church than “structured” friendliness. </li></ul><ul><li>Small groups that are limited in term, like a walking group, short study, craft project would be a nice option. Set a time period, six weeks or so. Mix generations. How about a cook for good health group to accommodate all of us who need to eat more healthfully? </li></ul>

Minister to develop vital programs for children and youth that complement our excellent church school program and are sensitive to the lifestyles of today’s youth and families </li></ul><ul><li>Offer “Spanish as a Second Language” classes to increase our ability to reach out to the Latino population. Include members of the Spanish-language Sunday School class to help teach. </li></ul><ul><li>Discern the needs of adult education [related to nurturing] and seek to meet those needs </li></ul><ul><li>Provide/sponsor education which is open to the community </li></ul><ul><li>Teacher support – workshops, training for new teachers, “days off,” fellowship/spiritual opportunities </li></ul><ul><li>Make better use of all church facilities, especially the new youth room (12 votes for “finish the Youth Room”) </li></ul>

PUMC 2009/2010 Planning Process 04/30/2009 <ul><li>Additional ideas from 1/5/09 brainstorm or survey input (# = votes if applicable): </li></ul><ul><li>Increase our visibility within the community – host outside speakers, etc. (8) </li></ul><ul><li>Outreach to Latino residents in town to encourage participation in Spanish speaking class (5) </li></ul><ul><li>Cross fertilization with Princeton University, Princeton Theological Seminary, Westminster Choir College, etc.(6) </li></ul><ul><li>Support community housing projects like Habitat for Humanity (3) </li></ul><ul><li>Visiting older people in communities (3) </li></ul><ul><li>Develop a program to appeal to non-member students (arts-based maybe?) </li></ul>
  9. 9. PUMC Goals <ul><li>At the Church Council Planning Retreat, we divided into five small groups, each group focusing on one of the five goal areas. These small groups were formed as follows: </li></ul><ul><li>Goal: Reaching People Through Membership, Membership and Growth Committees </li></ul><ul><li>Goal: Reaching People Through Worship, Worship Committee </li></ul><ul><li>Goal: Nurturing People in our Congregation, Trustees </li></ul><ul><li>Goal: Teaching God’s People, Education and Youth </li></ul><ul><li>Goal: Serving God’s People, Outreach Committee </li></ul><ul><li>The small groups began to develop specific objectives and action plans to tackle the goals within each Goal Area. Work will continue at the Committee and Church Council levels throughout the remainder of this calendar year.   10. 10. PUMC 2009 Goal Worksheet: Membership <ul><li>SMART Objectives: </li></ul><ul><li>Establish a database to allow PUMC to track who is active in the life of the church. Include tracking those who participate in worship. PUMC 2009 Goal Worksheet: Growth <ul><li>SMART Objectives: </li></ul><ul><li>Establish a robust Sunday morning greeter program in order to create a welcoming atmosphere for first-time (as well as repeat) visitors to PUMC. The Sunday morning greeter program will also provide a vehicle for gathering information about our visitors. </li></ul><ul><ul><li>Possibly have greeter program involve establishment of “Visitors Table” in Sanford Davis Room. </li></ul></ul><ul><li>Establish pew pads (aka Ritual of Friendship) and sign-in sheets for the various adult education and other Church School morning activities).
