The Atmosphere <ul><li>. </li></ul><ul><li>The surface of earth is surrounded by an envelop of air called atmosphere. </li></ul><ul><li>It extends approximately 70 Kilometers above the earth’s surface. </li></ul><ul><li>The atmosphere gradually thins out into space. The atmosphere is the thickest near the earth. </li></ul>
  3. 3. Composition of the Atmosphere <ul><li>Atmosphere is composed of air which consists of different colorless gases. </li></ul><ul><li>Nitrogen and oxygen constitute nearly 99% of the total gases present in the atmosphere. </li></ul>

Layers of the Atmosphere <ul><li>There are 4 principal layers in the atmosphere. </li></ul><ul><li>First layer is the troposphere that is where the weather is made </li></ul><ul><li>Then comes stratosphere which is where planes fly. The ozone layer is inside the stratosphere. </li></ul><ul><li>Next is the mesosphere that is where rocks burn so that they do not hit the earth </li></ul><ul><li>The last layer is the Ionosphere after which the space starts. </li></ul>

Importance of the Atmosphere <ul><li>Atmosphere provides oxygen which is required for breathing and sustaining life. </li></ul><ul><li>It prevent earth from severe heat of the Sun during the day time and keeps earth warm in the night by holding back the heat received earlier. </li></ul><ul><li>It protect earth from harmful radiations and meteors. </li></ul>
  8. 8. Importance of the Atmosphere <ul><li>The atmosphere also enables us to hear and communicate because it carries sound from one place to another. </li></ul><ul><li>It is responsible for changes in weather, blowing of wind, storms and cyclones etc. </li></ul>
