    Lighting Bugs Project - Presentation Transcript

    1. Lighting Bugs in a Bottle A Special Project in Digital Media Lab 2009-04-13
    2. About Lecturer: Youmin Kim - B.S. in CS, ICU (2004-2008) - M.S. candidate in Digital Media Program, KAIST ICC (2008- ) - Interests: Small mobile devices,Web and tags, User Experience
    3. Today’s Project: “Lighting Bugs in a Bottle”
    4. Our Goal: to make a digital lighting bugs in a bottle
    5. How to make the lighting bugs?
    6. We will use LEDs! • LED (Light-emitting diode) is an electronic light source • Many LEDs in our life (TV, traffic lights, ...) • You can select colors of the bugs :)
    7. How to supply the electricity?
    8. We will use Coin batteries! • Voltage: 3V • Small enough to insert into the bottle
    9. We will use a glass bottle • A small and transparent bottle
    10. On the other hands, What is the story of this project?
    11. We are traveling in a countryside at night. We meet many lighting bugs! we extend our arms to them softly, so we take them in the hands. Finally, we look them in our hands
    12. In terms of digital technology, the device will aware our hands. Then, automatically, LEDs will be turned on.
    13. How to aware our hands?
    14. We will use CDS! • CdS (Cadmium sulfide) • A photo-resistor or light dependent resistor • When we wrap the bottle, the light will decrease!
    15. Last question: Who control these things?
    16. Microcontroller! !\"#$%&'%()'*+ $-.% !/01/23,435/678 65,-<4884=17+->,2?147>-+1@,-?5,-?,25712*8-A,?*18>-4<-?5,-)*2B*+,>; , 8-Lead Plastic Dual In-Line (P or PA) – 300 mil Body [PDIP] • It is like a CPU in our Note: For the most current package drawings, please see the Microchip Packaging Specification located at http://www.microchip.com/packaging PC N • NOTE 1 It will control sensing E1 and output part in our 1 2 3 project D E A A2 • We will use PIC12F675 A1 b1 e L eB c b Units INCHES Dimension Limits MIN NOM MAX Number of Pins N 8 Pitch e .100 BSC Top to Seating Plane A – – .210 Molded Package Thickness A2 .115 .130 .195 Base to Seating Plane A1 .015 – – Shoulder to Shoulder Width E .290 .310 .325 Molded Package Width E1 .240 .250 .280 Overall Length D .348 .365 .400
