INITIATIVE FUNDED BY MONROE COUNTY TECHNOLOGY MILLAGE THANK YOU, VOTERS! 1:1 to use during the school year… both at school AND AT HOME! Chromebooks will be given to 6th graders starting this January! PORTABLE, WIRELESS, ELECTRONIC DEVICE

Jan. 7 Chromebook Distribution to 6th Grade Students Begins Jan. 27 “So Now What?” Follow Up Similar nights will be scheduled for parents of 4th and 5th graders later this school year.

INITIATIVE FUNDED BY MONROE COUNTY TECHNOLOGY MILLAGE THANK YOU, VOTERS! 1:1 “move all K-12 schools to interactive digital textbooks within the next 5 years”
    • 1:1LEARNING INITIATIVE OUR TRADITION OF EXCELLENCE CONTINUES The state of Michigan is moving toward online assessments, such as the MEAP and ACT. Some online assessments of the MEAP and MME will be administered during the 2014-15 school year. ALL paper testing will be completely eliminated by 2017-18. Why are we doing 1:1 now? INITIATIVE FUNDED BY MONROE COUNTY TECHNOLOGY MILLAGE THANK YOU, VOTERS! 1:1 “We should not TEST in environments in which we do not TEACH!”

INITIATIVE FUNDED BY MONROE COUNTY TECHNOLOGY MILLAGE THANK YOU, VOTERS! 1:1 In a University of Southern Maine study, within five years of implementing a 1:1 program found: • Percentage of students meeting Maine’s writing proficiency standard nearly doubled when laptops were used for writing drafts and final copy. • 80% of students using 1 to 1 reported an increased editing and self-correcting of their work. • More than 80% of teachers reported their students' writing had improved. Writing scores improved regardless of whether the writing assessments were administered online or with pencil and paper.

    • 1:1LEARNING INITIATIVE OUR TRADITION OF EXCELLENCE CONTINUES 1:1 improves more than just grades INITIATIVE FUNDED BY MONROE COUNTY TECHNOLOGY MILLAGE THANK YOU, VOTERS! 1:1 Middle School teachers in Maine reported the following benefits in their teaching: • Ability to explore topics in greater depth (87%) • Ability to teach some types of content and skills more effectively (86%) • Ability to individualize curriculum to fit student needs (82%) • Ability to differentiate instruction more effectively (76%) • Ability to teach students to be critical thinkers (66%)
