1. 1. The
HEART
of
WORSHIP

2. 2. The
HEART
of
WORSHIP
Too often we give the impression that worship is about us, about our needs, about our music. But in reality, worship is not about us. It’s about God. And it’s about God’s love for us.And sometimes our preoccupation with music and style leads to our own spiritual barrenness.
3. 3. The
HEART
of
There would there be no music in the greatest love song ever written - just the sound of nails pounding and the sweat like drops of blood dripping from Jesus’ hands and side. And the lyrics for the greatest love song ever written would contain just seven words. ‘Not my will but yours be done.’ – Graham Kendrick
WORSHIP
4. 4. extravagant love
The
HEART
of
WORSHIP
5. 5. extravagant love “To go beyond prudence or necessity in expenditure. To be exorbitant. To exceed the bounds of reason.”
The
HEART
of
WORSHIP
6. 6. 28 One of the teachers of religious law was standing there listening to the debate. He realized that Jesus had answered well, so he asked, “Of all the commandments, which is the most important?” 29 Jesus replied, “The most important commandment is this: ‘Listen, O Israel! The Lord our God is the one and only Lord.
The
HEART
of
WORSHIP
7. 7. 30 And you must love the Lord your God with all your heart, all your soul, all your mind, and all your strength.’ 31 The second is equally important: ‘Love your neighbor as yourself.’ No other commandment is greater than these.” 32 The teacher of religious law replied, “Well said, Teacher. You have spoken the truth by saying that there is only one God and no other.
The
HEART
of
WORSHIP
8. 8. 33 And I know it is important to love him with all my heart and all my understanding and all my strength, and to love my neighbor as myself. This is more important than to offer all of the burnt offerings and sacrifices required in the law.” Mark 12:28-33 (NLT)
The
HEART
of
WORSHIP
9. 9. Love and worship are two sides of the same coin!
The
HEART
of
WORSHIP
10. 10. 21 “I hate all your show and pretense— the hypocrisy of your religious festivals and solemn assemblies. 22 I will not accept your burnt offerings and grain offerings. I won’t even notice all your choice peace offerings.
The
HEART
of
WORSHIP
11. 11. 23 Away with your noisy hymns of praise! I will not listen to the music of your harps. 24 Instead, I want to see a mighty flood of justice, an endless river of righteous living. Amos 5:21-24 (NLT)
The
HEART
of
WORSHIP
12. 12. ConfessionLord God, give me your heart to love.Break me of my selfishness.Break me of my pride.Break me of my hypocrisy.Create a new heart in me – a heart that loves as you have loved. In Jesus name I pray... (Time for silent confession)
The
HEART
of
WORSHIP
