  • 2. What is Internet ?
    • Internet is a worldwide network of computers, which allows to share amount of information.
    • Computers access or retrieve digital information, which is converted to analog signals.
    • The process of interconnecting the computers and exchanging the information is done through TCP/IP .
  • 3. What can you do on the Internet ?
    • Internet provides certain facilities. These are :
    • Online Chatting : Internet users can communicate with one another sitting at home or at café by typing messages.
    • News Groups : You can participate in group discussions on different topics where you can share your views.
    • E-Mail : You can send letters, greetings or invitation cards or any other information anywhere in the world within no time.

    • E-shopping : Internet users can purchase goods/articles sitting at home.
    • Employment : You can avail the job opportunities through accessing internet.
    • Encyclopedia of Information : To find the general information about a subject which is not available elsewhere.
  • 5. Requirements to get connected to the Internet ?
    • To get connected to the Internet, you require the following :
    • A computer with fast microprocessor.
    • RAM of higher capacity
    • A Modem (External or Internal)
    • A speaker set and microphone
    • An Antivirus software
    • An account with an Internet Service Provider (ISP)
  • 6. What is Search Engine ?
    • A Search Engine is a place that stores the Internet’s Websites Addresses. There are various search engines available on Internet like Altavista, Google, Infoseek, Yahoo, Khoj, Cycos ….etc
  • 7. Open any Search Engine site Type the text on which you want information Click on Search
  • 8. What is a Protocol ?
    • The ‘guidelines’ ensure that smooth functioning takes place over the internet. These ‘rules’ or ‘guidelines’ are called Protocols. Different types of Internet Protocol are :
      • Transmission Control Protocol ( TCP )
      • Internet Protocol ( IP )
  • 9. What is an E-Mail ?
    • Electronic Mail or E-mail is a popular medium for communication. We can use E-mail to get in touch with any friend or relative at any place ‘very quickly’ and at ‘low cost’.
    • We can use the E-mail facility of a website to ‘send’ and ‘receive’ mails using an e-mail account.
  • 10. How to make an E-mail account ? STEP 1 : Open Internet Explorer
  • 11. STEP 2 : Type the Website here such as www.yahoomail.com
  • 12. STEP 3 : Click on Sign up
  • 13. We will get this type of a page in which we have to fill the right information about us. After filling them we have to fill the words given in the box and click yes
  • 14. After doing all this steps your email account is ready to use and it will look like this
