  • 4. Maritsa Maritsa is 480 km, the longest river that runs solely in the interior of the Balkans. It has its origin in the Rila Mountain in Western Bulgaria, flowing southeast between the Balkan and Rhodope mountain , past Plovdiv and Parvom ay (where the Mechka & Kayaliyka River joins it) to Edirne, Turkey.
  • 5. DanubeThe Danube flowssoutheast for 2,872 km(1,785 mi), passingthrough four CentralEuropean capitalsbefore flowing intothe Black Sea via theDanube Delta inRomania and Ukraine.
  • 6. Rhodope mountainThe Rhodope are a mountainrange in Southeastem Europe,with over 0 83% of its area insouthern Bulgaria and theremainder in Greece. Its highestpeak, Golyam Perelik (2,191 m),is the seventh highest Bulgarianmountain. The region isparticularly notable for the Karst areas with their deep rivergorges, large caves and specificsculptured forms, such asthe Trigrad Gorge.
  • 7. Rila mountainRila is a mountain range insouthwestern Bulgaria and thehighest mountain range ofBulgaria and the Balkans, with itshighest peak being Musala at2,925 m. The massif is also thesixth highest mountain inEurope, (when each mountain isrepresented by its highest peakonly), coming after the Caucasus,the Alps, Sierra Nevada, thePyrenees and Mount Etna, and thehighest between the Alps and theCaucasus. The larger part of themountain is occupied by the RilaNational Park.
  • 8. Old mountainThe Old mountain is a mountainrange in the eastern part of theBalkan Peninsula. The Balkanrange runs 560 km fromthe Vrashka Chuka Peak on theborder between Bulgaria andeastern Serbia eastward throughcentral Bulgaria to CapeEmine on the Black Sea. Thehighest peaks of the Staraplanina are in central Bulgaria.The highest peak is Botev (2,376m), located in the Central BalkanNational Park.
