We want to help you understand the Continuing Certification Requirements (CCR) Program, shed light on the various categories in which you can earn PDUs and help you find high-quality PDU activities that not only allow you to earn PDUs but most importantly help you grow as a project manager. I'm looking forward to guiding you towards earning your PDUs efficiently and effectively.

  • In every episode of The PDU Insider I answer one question that we receive from our audience. (that's you... in case you were wondering...) Today's question is this: How does my job as project manager "count"  toward earning Professional Development Units (PDUs)? How is this reported and documented?
  • Here is the answer:    PMI offers a large number of categories in which a PMP certified project manager can earn PDUs to re-certify the credential. The one that is probably least known is the fact that simply by working as a project manager you will earn PDUs. To be precise, this is category 2H and PMI defines this as follows: "Practitioner of project and/or program management services for more than 1,500 hours in a calendar year." Let me translate this: If you work as a project or program manager for at least 1,500 hours per year, then you can earn 5 PDUs for each full calendar year. So over the course of your 3-year re-certification cycle you can earn a maximum of 15 PDUs "just" for doing your normal work as a project or program manager. These PDUs are reported and documented in the same way as all other PDUs: You must log on to the PMI's Continuing Certification Requirements System (CCRS) which is located at http://www.pmi.org/ccrs. Once you are logged in click on "Report PDU", select category 2H and follow the on-screen instructions. I recommend that you keep track of the number of hours that you work every year on your projects, have your supervisor confirm the number via a quick email and keep that information in a "PDU folder" just in case that you get audited by PMI.   That was today's Ask Cornelius. If you have a question for me then please write to askcornelius @ pdusinsider.com
  • In every PDU Insider we present a number of featured items. Today we have a featured PMI Component activity, A featured PDU article and we begin with the featured PDU Activity. ...   Here is the provider's short description of this activity:  More than one third of projects have a budget of over $1.5 million so knowing how to handle the finances is an essential part of a project manager's repertoire. Join the webinar to see how clever budget handling can benefit you and your projects.
  • We are moving on to the Featured PMI Component Activity. Today, we go to Germany ...   And here is what they say about the event: PMI Frankfurt Chapter and GPM Freiburg invite you to participate in "Project management in action". This new series offers project managers, project participants and interested parties in the region a unique opportunity to exchange experiences, learn from others, to share knowledge and build networks. All days seminar and summer gathering. I especially like the "summer gathering" bit.
  • This week's featured PDU article is titled ..... and is written by ...   In this article John Reiling explains how you can align your career strategy with your PMP PDU strategy. Efficiency, Competence, and...STRATEGY   Here are a few words from what he writes:: As busy professionals, we need to make to most of our time. We need to do things efficiently and competently. I will also add that we must do things "strategically" because this is the key to what I have in mind. I will also add that it is the area that has also been most challenging to me.   Please see the articles section on pduinsider.com
  • And that's it for Episode 1 of The PDU Insider Podcast. Please stop by at our website pduinsider.com where you can ...   Until Next Time.
