9 Ist Dm Graphic Design L5 - Presentation Transcript

    1. Graphic Design 9IST Digital Media
    2. Graphic Design
      • Before Digital Media, all graphic design was done using pen, paper and ‘wet’ photography.
      • What now takes an hour, used to take a day or more to prepare.
      • How long ago – about 15 years.
    3. Professional pens cost about $9.00 each. You need a lot of pens to create realistic drawings!
    4. Graphic Designers used to hand draw images using these pens to show their clients. The might produce something like these in about 2 hours. Using designer textas is a skill they learned by attending art college for about 5 years.
    5.
    6. Digital Graphic Design
      • PAINT programs are used to create …
      • RASTER ( BITMAP) graphics made up of many pixels.
      • Photos from a digital camera are BITMAP
      • DRAW programs are used to create …
      • VECTOR graphics . Made mathemetically by the computer
      • Computer Aided Design (CAD) is VECTOR
    7.
    8.
    9. Where do you see VECTORS?
      • Flash and Shockwave games are VECTOR graphics. The computer works out how to draw and colour the lines.
      • VECTORS are faster to animate, faster to colour and are smaller in file size than ‘bitmaps’.
      • Computers are great at figuring out VECTORS, they love doing MATHS.
    10.
    11. KEYWORDS
      • BITMAP (RASTER)
      • VECTOR PAINT PROGRAMS
      • DRAW PROGRAMS
    12. MODELLING & RENDERING
      • Digital Media is used to MODEL and RENDER objects, buildings people and things.
      • MODELLING is making a wire frame skeleton of an object in a computer.
      • This is done by plotting points and shapes in three dimensions.
      • Once this is done you can MANIPULATE the object, turn it, view it etc.,
    13.
    14. RENDERING
      • Rendering in the process that computers used to put TEXTURE and LIGHT onto a computer model to make it realistic.
      • More realistic=more processing/time
      • Models can also be animated, this means there are 15-24 renders to be done each second. BIG computers are needed.
      • RENDERING creates light and shadows
    15.
    16. Like the idea of Modelling?
      • Its quite easy to do, once you start to see things how a computer does
      • You can create simple shapes easily
      • You can ‘render’ easily
      • It’s fairly quick to learn the basics
      • A free modeller is called BLENDER
      • 3D STUDIO MAX is more professional – and expensive!
    17.
    18. Class Task
      • Using the Internet to research images and information …
      • Create a logo for a coffee company called “Beach-Chic”
      • Makes towls, beach wear, sunnies that are ‘up market’ and expensive.
      • Upload your logo in a POWERPOINT document.
