"Intentional Web Presence: 10 SEO Strategies Every Academic Needs to Know"

Faculty need to begin re-thinking what it means to be an academic and a scholar in a “Google world.” If Google can’t find your work, then it’s essentially irrelevant because others aren’t finding it. In this session, we present problems with old modes of knowledge dissemination, outline strategies academics should be following to build a web presence and improve their search engine ranking, and conclude with some data we’ve collected to support our claims.

  • So the world has changed a great deal over the past 10 or so years. I am sure you can each think of examples. Can you imagine a world without an ipod? Without Tivo? Without YouTube? Or without such things as Google or Wikipedia???
  • A zettabyte… There are all kinds of numbers out there about how information is being created at an exponential rate. Especially with the rise of the web2.0 read/write web that allows anyone and everyone to contribute…
  • So the question remains about what the role of the university is in this new world where we can find “all the answers” right on our smart phone.
  • Get a professional website with your own domain. This can be done for as little as $10 a year
  • Thinking in terms of SEO – regularly updates on content = more visitors
