  • 8. Tourism and Protected Areas Specialist Group (TAPAS) is one of WCPA structural divisions which is committed to support sustainable tourism in protected areas.
  • 9. The mission of the TAPAS is to provide a forum where people collaborate, stimulate dialogue, share expertise, develop and disseminate knowledge, and enhance learning, in order to enable the planning, development and management of sustainable tourism in protected areas.
  • 10. Membership benefits include: * Exchanging dialogue and information with a wide range of colleagues interested i n tourism and protected areas * Sharing research information * Col laborating on joi n t publications and participating in research programs, seminars and conferences * Membership i n a Google discussion group * Discounted prices for social web workshops and webinars
  • 11. Six Objectives : 1 . Provide strategic advice to governments and other s on the optimum approaches to sustainable tourism in protected and natural areas . 2. Strengthen the capacity and effectiveness of protected area managers and pol icy maker s and other s in relation to sustainable tourism. 3. Enhance the level of tourism contribution to the goals of protected areas and protected area systems.
  • 12. 4. Enhance the capacity of WCPA, including through co-operative ventures wit h networks and partner s and , in particular IUCN member s , and recognize thei r contributions . 5. Develop and disseminate knowledge on tourism and protected areas, including case studies and best practice syntheses . 6. Provide an interactive forum for individuals working on protected areas and tourism, which allows them to network, communicate, col laborate, and develop partnerships.
