Storytelling NowMany thanks for the kind words. I hope my message comes across as it’s intended - that it’s time for small business owners in Belize and elsewhere around the world to take ownership of their own story and to use Web 2.0 to converse with the world.2 months ago

World Parks Photography GroupThanks, Aivar. Your photos are marked with ’all rights reserved’ ... would it be ok if I included some snaps like ’Walking on the Bog Trail in Estonia" in this overview?3 months ago

Storytelling NowExcellent! I am making "Give people a fun, exciting ′catch′ activity and use that as the baseline from which more meaningful dialogue can evolve" into its own slide3 months ago

Storytelling NowI’m still thinking about the 90-9-1 slide. As much as I’d like to see greater participation/creativity, most people are content to absorb the information in a fairly passive way. That said, if we want to tweak the system, then we need to insist on buy-in from those in charge and we need to create fun events that get people engaged. Again, the NZ example - the online dialogue faltered when government officials and academics registered on the forum but then failed to participate! On the other hand, the highest level of participation during the conference was TriviaNight. That got everyone engaged! Here in Mexico I’ve been facilitating photosafaris and videonights that get people talking to one another, but online the numbers go back to the 90-9-1 breakdown.5 months ago

Storytelling NowThanks, Tom. Regarding the breakdown - I think back to the Ecotourism Challenges Dialogue we held in 07 after my talks in Australia and NZ and frankly, this model fits the reading-registration-participation percentages to a tee. The numbers show lots and lots of reading, little active participation. That said, I believe the model shows that if we want an active dialogue about sustainable practices and responsible tourism, we’d better be prepared to offer engaging training at the grassroots. Too many tourism pros are convinced that if they can read or send an email, they have mastered the Web!7 months ago
