    16. At one time, library books were shelved according to when they were purchased. The first book purchased would be first on the shelf. The second book purchased would be second and so forth. A librarian named Melvil Dewey thought this was a very inefficient way of arranging books. He thought that subject should group non-fiction books. If they were, when one was looking for a book about snakes, for example, one would find all the books about snakes in one place. One could examine them and decide which ones to check out. One wouldn’t have the run all over the librarian looking for snake books. How Mr. Dewey arrived at the order within his system?
