• Select your currency • Ensure your location is set to the country you live in • Select keyword phrase match phrase to "Phrase" which means: The sum of search volumes that include the whole phrase or near variants of the whole phrase. • Then in the Word or phrase field type in your primary / seed keyword that you would like your website to be found for. In this example well search Landscape gardener. • Press Search.Sort the keyword suggestions by Local Monthly Searches. Local in this case refers to your country. Younow need to look at the keywords which have high Local Monthly Search but have Low or Mediumcompetition.

So go to Google.com.au andsearch Landscape gardener.When you type your search Google also offers up some suggestions which we can add to our list above.In our case Google suggested the following which we can use: • landscape gardeners Melbourne • landscape gardeners • landscape gardeners easter suburbs MelbourneOnce you have searched Google we want to look at the top three organic listings on Google. Organiclistings are at the top of the search for their content and amount of other sites linking to them.
There are three types of listing on Google:Paid Google AdWords. These listing are at the top in yellow and in the right hand side bar.Google places listing. These listings have a little push pin that relates to the business location on themap.Organic listings: These are the most trusted listings because the pages listed are there because thecontent is the most relevant.Click on the first organic listing. Look at the browser page title and make a note of the keywords used.The browser page title is one of the most important SEO components of the page. In this example thebrowser keywords used are "Landscaping & Gardening".
Now look at the words used on the page. Make a note of keyword phrases which you might not havethought of or might have missed. Ie:Landscape designLandscaping & GardeningLandscape gardener costWe now need to look at the page source. If youre using Firefox press Command + U. If youre on a PCusing Explorer go to View + Source.A new window will open up. You need to find <meta name="keywords" tag to see a list of the keywordsthis site has used. Make a note of any keyword phrases you havent found which you think are relevantto your site.Its also important to take a look at meta name="description" to see how they have described this page.You need to repeat this process for the other top two websites.You will now have quite a list on your hands. This can be considered as your Global Keyword Phrase List.Its important to revisit this list and make it more focused. Take a good look at the list and only keep thephrases that really represent your website as a whole.WRITING WEB PAGE METADATA DESCRIPTIONSYou now have your Global Keyword Phrase List. You should also have a list of all of the pages that aregoing to be on your website.Each page on your website needs to be unique and optimised for the content on that page. Once this is done you need to submit each and every URL on your site by going to Health / Fetch asGoogle. Here you can submit every URL on your website so that Google will crawl your site.CONCLUSIONYour website should now have well written content and be optimised for the services you provide. Youhave also submitted your site to Google and invited Google to crawl your web pages.The only other thing left to do is to add Google Analytics to monitor how people find your site. This isquite important so you can monitor if the keywords you have implemented are working for your site.Optimising your website is not an easy task and its not finished once you have gone through all of thepoints above.
